Yeah so this is an interesting one. I’ve decided to start publicly logging and discussing threats made to me, both legal and otherwise. It kinda started with the whole Astari thing.
Anyway, I have not called this number back because after seeing it in the Google text to voice translation first, then hearing the audio, I just got the sense that it was too on the nose for a Hollywood gangster movie type persona to immediately treat seriously. So, I decided to post here first before making any moves. My thoughts on possibilities here range all over the place, but here are my top few potential explanations as to what this might be;
An AI put-on of some sort. At some level, this voice and persona feels too on the nose to be real.. feels like someone is having fun with AI.. but why? Also what about the phone number? Is it spoofed and someone else might receive a call from me not knowing what the hell is going on? Is it a real phone number but someone is just messing around?
The caller is a legit crime lord gangster type who misunderstands the technology and thinks he can track his targets / victims around.. hence the mention of being a customer or investor? Possibly.
The caller is a wanna-be (or possibly legit) gangster type who might be developing schizophrenia and somehow fell into the same hole as our other hapless victims of such a disease? But why the nonsense about being a customer or investor then? Seems dubious but people never fail to surprise me, so it could be possible.
What else comes to mind? Anyone else wanna call this number and potentially involve yourself in an underworld drama? I think I will eventually call them back and record the whole thing (with proper informed concept of course), then post it here.. eventually.
But if it’s a banker, why the mystery bulshit? I wouldn’t trust him one bit after the whole “I might be this, I might be that” thing. Let alone the threat at the end.
And the Capitalist in me wants to tell him to fuck off and get his shit together. You can’t negotiate without good communication or stating what you actually want.
Keeping people in the dark is the opposite of good management or honest business practices.
I love DT because as a company, it’s the opposite of this, and I think that we all agree on this point.
Maybe he’s a bastard annoyed by the existence of payment conversions?
Anyways, I’d personally ignore it. And report it to the police if that’s a thing.
this is why i don’t think it’s anyone legit.. not like a goldman sacks banking liaison would identify themselves and leave a pretty clear threat on a voicemail message. some criminals might be this brazen, but the banking kind of criminal often keeps all the i’s dotted and t’s crossed while they destroy lives.
It feels like someone in the “implanted against my will” category trying to force contact. Perhaps trying simultaneously to coerce (customer or investor) and threaten (bad things might start to happen) in order to muscle their way to the results they want / need / expect.
Definitely reads as a, Do Not Engage type of thing. If it is someone mentally unwell, you can only do them damage.
