whats the difference between the apex ring conversions and the apex 2 ring conversions? is it just more storage space for applets?

More persistent, DESFire EV3 emulation, curve25519 are the biggies. If you go to any smart card page there is now a tool that lets you compare smart cards re: installed applets and capacity.
