Apex Flex not working

Hey All,
I’ve had my Apex Flex for well over a year and use it weekly, if not daily. Recently, everything stopped responding to my flex. I’ve tried to scan it with the latest iPhone, Samsung, Flipper, and nothing.

here is the video of trying to scan from Fidesmo from my Samsung.

(Sorry for the shitty footage, I think I need a 3rd hand to do this).

Well it sounds like you know how to use it and if it’s not working, I would suggest you contact DangerousThings via their ticket system and quote your post above as a reference

Youll find the help button, bottom left

Super appreciate it! I didn’t realize there was a ticket system on the site! Submitting it now., Appreciate it

Looking at the location, I have something similar in my non-dominant hand, which I find easier to read with my phone in my dominant hand, if you get a replacement, you might want to consider a new location from a flow perspective, also in my opinion a less likely chance of damage, as you likely use your non- dominant hand less…by definition.

Any injury to the implant area recently?

My Apex is in my P1 position and I find it very fast and easy to read.

I also have a FlexSecure as a backup to my ApexFlex, and that is in a similar location to your ApexFlex
Some more info

I would also consider (if you dont already have one)
A RSP / MFGC

FYI
Im not trying to upsell to you (i dont work for nor do I get commisions from DT / VK)
Just some suggestions for you to consider from a user like yourself and some things I have found work really well for me…

Let us know how you go

Can you see implanted in the P1 area? thats an interesting place. Also does it get annoying there?

ie, I have a titan on the pad of my dominant ring finger and when i grab something tightly, I can defiantly feel it in there, I still like the spot but knowing what I know now I would have chosen a different location.

I have an original FlexM1 in my P1-R which I can see it but only if I splay my fingers
:raised_hand:
But my ApexFlex P1-L I cannot, it will depend on your install and anotomy.
I have skinny hands, but others with fatter hands may hide implants better.

If your actual question is, has anybody ever noticed them, the answer is no.

Not at all, its really convenient, I have 3 in close proximity on both hands in P0, P1, P11 and no issues with any.

After install, you may feel itchiness as it heals, and a slightly numb for a while after, but after you are fully healed, you shouldnt even know it is there

Sweet thank you! appreciate the advice. Ill be getting another flex implate if this is covered under warranty or not. So super helpful to hear other good places that work.

Not fully applicable, but my xG3 v2 P1 (Left) install was 3x itchier than either implant before it during healing.

I am curious to see what it looks like when removed. I had an identical experience about one month ago. Used my Apex daily for over a year, and boom, dead.

Table is dirty but the implant was wiped with alcohol thoroughly. The mark on the left side of the first image is from forceps during the removal.

Thankfully DT made it right and the new one is working great.

We are looking forward to putting a collection of failed flex through x-ray inspection later this year to determine failure modes and see if we can improve the design.

Do you guys have any inklings on what the failure modes might be? I remember seeing a lot of posts on the various testing methods you guys were using during the later part of the Apex Flex’s development cycle, do you have any thoughts on what you may have missed?

Do we have any idea how long the current flex implants should last? I know the P71 chip itself is supposed to last around 50 years or so, but I’m curious how much less likely a decade or two is compared to a two-year lifespan, with an Apex for example.

We won’t know until after the testing : )

If anyone out there has a failed flex blinky, we’d love to have it

My hunch is the copper pathways in the polyamide flex PCB which make up the antenna traces are probably fracturing inside the PCB. The x-ray inspection should reveal this. Second possibility is a break in one of the vias on the board.

Untented vias can be filled with solder to make them stronger and filled vias are also available from some fabs although I’ve never used them. But who am I kidding, Satur9 probably told you about these options already.

We’ll see what the x-ray inspection reveals and work toward solutions… but yeah options are out there.

I can only speak for mine, and I have a variety of different Flexies that I have had from ~6 years to ~6 months

Not a single failure of the ones above, although Amal pulled the copper antennas from sale due to concerns of the wire chaffing, that is actually my oldest Flex and one of my most used implants.

I live a pretty active lifestyles and they all get banged around from time to time, but they have not skipped a beat

Can I just appreciate how nice your nails look. Even after a manicure mine are never this smooth. My poor thumb has so many indentations from poorly judged Hammer blows it looks like a discarded amazing box.
