Howdy wetware cowboys/cowgirls. I’ve got a new update to Apex Manager I’m excited to share with y’all. Version 3.2. This one introduces some cool new looks and features. I’ve authored a full breakdown of the changes and new features here on medium. Please let me know what y’all think!
In this Design System, I have included some fun visual experiments. One of which is the new core scaffold system which utilizes your Android device’s gyroscope to emulate a parallax effect to give an elevated surface look to the central content of the application.
I got quite worried when I saw this, everything everywhere always want to be so shiny and get my attention and I hate it. I know I’m more sensitive to it than most people, but I can’t be the only one.
I know apex is cool, it made me a motherfucking cyborg after all! I don’t need the design language of the app telling me how cool it is.
That said, I downloaded the update (v3.2.1) and I don’t see any movement at all… so no complaints I guess? But I’m worried I missed something.
It’s tied to your gyroscope. Super minimal. It’s worked on every device I’ve tested on thus far, but maybe yours is an outlier. If you move your phone around, the center content will ever so slightly track with your movement. I’ve attached an example screen recording. It’s hard to notice since it only shows as you’re moving.
I was able to start a recording, shake my phone about a bit, and then view the recording and see it, so it definitely works. I’m still only barely kinda able to see it when moving my phone around
