Cheap Card Reader for ESPKey?

I’m thinking about purchasing an ESPKey to play with. Are there any cheap card readers that work well for testing?

I think my employer has some of that model. I’ll talk to security and see if they can have a spare I can borrow. I already have experience cloning their iclass cards.

yeah, i just recommend it because it will give you the most out of a single reader with the added bonus of integrated SE SAM so you can get PACs from SE cards.

any aliexpress wiegand reader would do the job but you’d be limited to their formats and frequency capabilities

If you are looking for a cheap LF reader, I can recommend this one as it has a really good range:

Although this one is probably going to be better in every way possible:

I was actually looking at that on Amazon. Think I could provide it power with ground and vcc, splice in an ESPKey and grab card data?

for the format(s) it supports, yes.

Honestly I recommend finding this one used on eBay. It’s such a great reader. But it has to be multi class SE

Any reason not to get an RP15 or RP40 if I find them at a cheaper cost?

are they multiclass SE RP15/40?

if they are then go for it. it’s just the form factor size of reader, if they’re not multiclass SE variants then they’re reduced capability to a dramatic extent that makes them not really worth it.

They’re larger.

Smaller form factor is ideal but really as long as it is multi class SE it will have both HF and LF

Thanks for the help. I ordered an ESPKey from RedTeamTools and a Multiclass SE RP15.
