Is it a 4 byte or 7 byte mifare “classic” ?

If it’s 4 byte then the dngr.us/xm1 can work with a dngr.us/proxmark3 to clone it… or if you want better performance a dngr.us/flexm1 gen1a works well too (or gen2 if you’re into that)

So basically the gen1a backdoor version of the magic mifare means you can mess things up and basically always be able to get in via the backdoor and rewrite things… the gen2 has no back door so if you accidentally lock a sector there appears to be no recovery for that (just like a real mifare).

You’ll also need to use the proxmark3 to crack any keys on your source tag, if there are any used… you could post a TagInfo full scan to see if there are any sectors being used for anything specific… otherwise just the ID needs to be cloned.

Sectors?

If you need to clone a mifare chip you need to use a Magic chip so that you can write to the UID. There are two versions, Gen 1 which has a backdoor to allow you to write to normally unwritable sectors, but can be detected by trying to trigger the backdoor. Gen 2 which makes all sectors writable by default, so it is not detectable. But if you lock any sectors in a Gen 2 chip they are permanently locked.

As for writing, the proxmark3 RDV4 will definitely work. The I-copyX is based on the Proxmark3 so it should also work.

Yeah, he made a copy, but the copy is now the only card allowed in the lock. Not exactly covert entry

Interesting. I have only had experience with HID so far. What causes the original card to not work?

Yale NFC locks write new content to the tag each time you present it (presumably an OTP: I wasn’t able to figure out any pattern and neither was Iceman). Once the copy is presented, the lock knows its new state and will reject the original, which hasn’t changed.

In short, you can only “pass” a valid memory content from one tag to another in-between presentations to the lock, but you can’t duplicate a tag.

Correct me if I’m wrong Rosco, but that is just a Yale lock “issue” not an iCopy issue!?

I linked that video purely as a Mifare read / write guide for using the iCopy, it just happend to demonstrate using a Yale lock.

Flex vs non flex?
Is it easy to accidentally lock the gen2 M1 Magic – so much so that gen1 should be the go to choice?

Is there any information on the most popular items and what they are used for? Is there a Universal (nearly) option? What I am getting at is I am new, willing to spend money, want it to be directly useful, but I only have M1 mifare goals right now, What is everyone else bumping into that makes it a “recommended” item to get… like XYZ is usabled with many types of whatevers and will be the most useful besides accomplishing your M1 goals if your looking to chip both hands and dont know what to get.

I dont mind reading articles or watching vids, if something really helped you make sense of all this throw it at me!

Generally, it is easier for somebody to tell us what they are trying to accomplish / access. etc
Quite often, people buy and implant and then ask what they can do with it…

Again, I think Green and Blue are the 2 most popular, if you go down this path, just be aware, you will have to consider the placement, as you will only be able to place this near LF implants.

My personal favourite, because it covers MANY options.
2in1 dual frequency
the LF chip is an emulator and it covers a lot of options,
the HF chip uses common ISO14443A plus NDEF capable

Flex - Bigger implant, better range, slightly more difficult to install
xSeries - Smaller, reduced range, easy install

Accidentally! I would say no, if you do things correctly then you should be fine, however, the Gen1 is the more popular.

This is my primary concern when playing around with writing data to sectors, especially since we are dealing with magic chips with sometimes wonky signal detection, small antennas, and one-handed proxmark3 operation

Interesting, is there any data as to how often this happens with flexM1 gen 2 devices vs with flexM1 gen 1a devices that can be recovered?

i don’t think we’ve sold more than a handful of flexM1 gen2 (pun!) … the xM1 is more popular by far.
