Completed - Designing a dreadlock needle

So after having too much fun designing a prototype for the g4 needle I’ve decided to make something I’ve needed for over a decade…

As most of you are aware I have dreadlocks. And we don’t have any grooming devices. As we don’t have the maintenance issues that non deadlocked people Have. Just wash and wait… How ever we doo need to sew in the loose hairs that don’t make it into the dreadlocks time to time. We call this frizz.

Commonly a sewing needle used for wool is used to resolve this issue. Loose hair is painstakingly threaded into the eye of the needle and sewn (in and out ) of the dreadlock. As u can imagine pushing and pulling a 2 mm needle through the equivalent of carpet is difficult. Ones fingers get stabbed and very sore from pushing the rear of the needle. And sometime a pliers is needed to tug the needly through the dreadlock.

So I thort what if there needle eye was on the sharp end and it had a big handle on the back to prevent stabbed.

So I plan to make it in the next hour. I’ll attempt to dremel a needle eye into a piece of stiff 2mm wire bent and snapped of a bit of arris fencing. I’ll then attempt to sharpen and Polish it. While I cad and print an ergonomic handle… it should just fit in the hole be bent over and glued in place.

If you have any tips or advice. Make it quick. You know what im like  meep meep neeeooowm

Give me your secret? Is it more coffee? Should I drink more coffee?

In my defense, dealing with bureaucracy has been grinding me down for ages now…

Alow your self to get bored enough for the mundane to be forfilling. Soon, these self set puzzles are more entertaining than their counterparts and you have something to show at the end of it…

…also it’s raining outside…

Nice!

Reminds me of the Speedy Stitch sewing awl for heavy cloth/tarps etc.

Yeh i have looked at awls. But they were either too thick. Or the eye was too small.

tyre repair punch

Cost a couple of £
I used one on a bike in Vietnam, If it can punch through Rubber tires, your dreads will pose no issue.

I failed you…

you could bigify one of these needle threaders,

Made of thin spring steel with a wide opening to make inserting loose hairs into it easier, then you push that through the eye of the needle, hold the hair, withdraw the threader…
