Confusion on Magic Ring

The magic ring very clearly says that it cannot share data with NFC enabled smartphones. However if you click on NFC link: [Share data with NFC enabled smartphones] and then click all compatible devices for nfc you see the magic ring. https://dangerousthings.com/category/nfc-compatible/ Am I missing something here? So what is it? Are you able to do https://dangerousthings.com/wp-content/uploads/Quick-start-guide.pdf these things with the Magic ring or not?

While @yeka is right a bit of an explanation might help.

MiFare cards are not strictly NFC compatible. The Magic ring contains a Gen 2 MiFare compatible magic chip. You can change the UID on this chip (which you can’t do on the older Dual frequency ring).

It is possible to write ndef data to a Mifare “classic” chip but it’s not NFC compliant… phone and NFC devices won’t read it unless they have an NXP reader chip with attached crypto1 license necessary to read the Mifare classic memory structure. NXP calls this the “NFC Type Mifare”… but it’s a bullshit move and not actually NFC forum compliant.

My suggestion would be to get an Android phone with nxp reader chip (there are many) and use tagwriter from NXP to format and write ndef data to the Mifare classic chip.
