Drumming accident

Hi! I bought a Next v2 implant from Dangerous Things this april, and got it implanted in p0 left hand by a professional. It was everything healing as suposed to, but I play latin american percussion, and was playing with a very big and heavy drumstick, and I accidentally hit with the point of the stick, full force, right on the implant, exactly on the point of insertion, while on a live show. I thought it was broken, so I tried to scan it. I used to be white, but now the blink was red because of the bruise. The implant is now swimming in blood, as the whole part between my fingers index and thumb is kind of swollen. The implant seems to be ok, but I don’t know if it is broken or cracked.
Is there a way to check the integrity of the chip?
Is it easy to break with a drumstick?
Should I be playing drums with an implant or will it always get swollen and bruised?
Will the vibration and constant hitting on drums damage the implant?

It used to look OK like in the video, but now it looks bruised and swollen like in the picture. It reads and writes with my phone, and blinks.

Should I get Xrays to see if the implant is broken? I am a little bit worried as I use my hand in work a lot, producing music and playing instruments.

I also fell riding motorcycle a couple of weeks ago, but it did nothing to the implant. Feels a little bit ironic now.

Thanks very much for your answers. Greetings from Chile, South América.

X series implants are pretty resilient. So I don’t think it’s broken. And you should be able to play drums and ride your motorcycle without a problem.

With an x-ray. If it’s not too expensive, it’s a good idea for the piece of mind, and you can post it in the x-ray thread if you want.

Saludos! Y sana que sana, manito de rana… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hahahahah Thanks, very much for the very quick response. I will wait for it to heal a little bit, and maybe get an X ray in a couple of weeks if it still feels weird.

Hahahahaha Saludos for you too! You know your spanish!

Hi! So couple of days ago I woke up, and the implant was no longer migrating through my skin, but it was sitting a little bit close to the joint. Now it is sitting more tightly, but each hour it is going closer to the joint. I tryed to massage it to a different position, but it doesnt move anymore. the installer, who is a health profesional, says that it still has a little bit of edema, from of the drumming accident, and that I should take more care of it, but we really dont know what to do with the migration of the implant making it sit closer to the bone. This happens mostly when I sleep, and when I wake up, I realize it has a different, tighter position. Any help will be apreciated.

When it is sitting in this position, does it cause any pain or discomfort when moving your joint? Can you post a photo with a marking on the hand where your bone is and where the implant it resting? The marks can be made digitally or you can just draw on your hand

There is a picture with the joint, the two bones, the implant, and the point of insertion.

Yes, it causes a little bit of pain when playing drums, or moving my hand too much, I also have a little bit of pain in the wrist, but I don’t know if it is related.

Also this is another picture with a circle in the part where the led is emitting light

Does it cause pain or odd sensations when you just open and close your hand, twist your hand both directions, and basically just operate your hand normally?

When you drum you are producing a lot of force as you wildly swing your hands around… that could cause an implant site that might be sore from your attempts to massage and manually migrate the implant around to feel some dull sensations of pain.

Well, my other hand is not implanted and it doesnt hurt when drumming. Yes, it is a little bit of pain. Last night it got tighter and a little less bruised, but I still feel a bit of pain in the whole area, specially in the index finger bone. It is not terrible, but it is not nothing. I still feel it when doing normal life things, such as drive, work, type, or play instruments. I will stop drumming for a week or two, to les it sit and heal. I hope it will not hurt as it heals. What is your opinion on the pictures? Was the migration towards the bone too bad? Should I just leave it? or remove it?

Your experience is very very similar to mine. From 5 years ago. Take a look at the picture (taken today), and you’ll see a short blue line (implant) and a long blue line (bone). I think we’re in almost the same spot. Mine moved there rather suddenly and painfully, then just settled down and became normal for the last 5 years. Maybe it itches sometimes, but no biggie.

I’d almost bet that A. there’s some kind of anatomical structure that makes that a natural resting place, and B. You’ve gotten it all irritated and it just needs time to chill out. Some Ibuprofen may accelerate this.

Also, just for fun, here’s the link to when I had the same issue in 2020.
