Field Meter Pro
INTRODUCTION
Hammy, not being able to measure the rapid duty cycle on a few devices came up with a solution to that problem, thus the development of the Field Meter Pro by MidWest Gadgets.
This unit has evolved to answer the need for a quantitative, repeatable field strength measurement for 13.56 MHz High Frequency (HF) NFC. It’s the next step up from the Non Pro version, adding the critical analogue component. This is the hardware that finally allows us to stop guessing and start measuring the real performance of those tricky access control systems and pocket readers aka Phones.
This review is similar to the Non Pro version

The Field Meter is $20 cheaper than the Field Meter Pro and it works well on many readers, BUT if you can afford the extra $20, I would recommend the Pro version as the better option.
It is slightly more than twice as long and a lot thicker ,than the non-pro version
but so far, I haven’t found a reader it can’t…read

TESTING INCLUDING READ RANGES
Not particularly relevant for this testing, you’ll want to move the Field Meter Proaround to find the best / strongest position on the meter
SPECIFICATIONS
Analogue Display:
Read Range 0-15 Volts/Meter x10
(If display says 5, actual reading is 50v/m
Digital Display:
0-100v/m
Battery(not included)
CR2032
PROs
• Works on all readers (tested so far)
• Visualise fields
• Has digital option also
• Easy to use
• Easy to read
• Sensitive to fields
CONs
-
Not really an issue, but maybe the size for some people, but it is what it is and restricted to the component sizes.
-
again, Not really an issue, but an Analogue only option might be an option to reduce the foot print
-
There really arent any cons to this
-
Showing peak would be nice, but it’s easy enough to pick the peak / average.
“HACKS”
Can be used as Digital or Analogue (not both at the same time.)
The side switch
Up Position - display readings on Analogue Display
Down Position - Activates Digital Display and displays readings
ALSO
On the back of the unit there are two test points labled VM1 and VM2 this is so you can connect a Volt Meter and get the readings yourself. or design a ESP32 Visualizer and plot the data
PRICE
USD $75.00
SUMMARY:
The Field Meter Pro is the evolution of a critical community tool. It turns the art of “guessing where to put your implant” or “figuring out why this lock sucks” into a measurable, repeatable science. The addition of the analogue needle addresses the single biggest weakness of previous digital-only meters when dealing with real-world access control hardware. This is required gear for the 13.56MHz power user. [Pun intended]
