Hi
I am thinking of getting the hand implant. Just have a few questions
how safe are the implants, can it cause loss of mobility in the fingers?
can it cause amputation of the hand if the implant breaks?
Can it cause death if the implant breaks and the metal components enter the blood stream?
Thankfully it’s exceedingly rare for DT brand implants to break after implantation, but there’s still some information available:
Some theoretical discussion:
The short answer is, you want to remove anything that’s broken. That said…
It’s kind of an interesting question with many facets, but I’ll comment on the magnets. Definitely want to get a magnet out as soon as possible. The materials used are highly oxidative and crumble and fall apart when exposed to oxygen. Iron rusts and falls away whereas lead forms a patina.
When it comes to something like a chip implant, there are several factors and variables that will affect the outcome and relative sa…
Actual technical tests that DT has done to their implants to verify safety:
We take testing very seriously.
x-series product testing
flex product testing
Our x-series testing
Below are the various tests we’ve put our x-series transponders through so far, however it is important to point out that these tests do not include magnetic products like the xG3 . It is our opinion that the xG3 should be removed prior to undergoing an MRI.
Glass contamination testing
There are many grades of glass that range from just plain bad, to industrial grade, all the way up to truly bio…
And there have been reports of implants from other brands using cheaper materials breaking, here’s one example:
A report from a Facebook user in the RFIDIY group has been posted that calls for anyone with a Firefly v2 from cyberise.me to immediate have it removed. I personally have always thought that the Firefly and Firefly v2 glass was fragile and the collapsed oval shape of the v2 meant it had serious structural issues. This customer advises;
If anyone else has a Firefly V2 from cyberize.me you need to get it out ASAP.
Mine started randomly hurting yesterday, so I cut it out today and found several …
In all cases, the general consensus seems to be that so long as you remove a broken implant relatively quickly, no long-term or major harm is likely to occur
