Prosthetic Enhancement, aka Inspector Gadget Finger

Hello friends - I’m new to implants and biomods.

I recently amputated a few fingers on a table saw. Rather than dwell on the loss, I am trying to make the experience and story a biological improvement. Years ago, I placed a glass bead in the tip of a motorcycle glove to trip the ignition switch of a custom Harley, which inspired this endeavor. I also started playing with a Flipper before shortening my reach - sort of serendipitous.

I assume I’ll need a few tags to add the functionality I’d like; including an electric dirtbike ignition using a Motogadget MoLock, access to a MB Sprinter van, potential access to a Toyota Tacoma, and ideally a credit card or two. Through my research I’ve learned that the Tacoma likely uses a rolling code (like KeeLoq), meaning the signal changes every use. They also operate at UHF (315/433 MHz), which is outside NFC/RFID range - which likley means expensive, costly aftermarket smart lock installation. I also learned that credit card emulation requires a payment-enabled JavaCard (like JCOP4) which stores a tokenized payment applet, but I might need to use a service like fidesmo.com, as a middleware between the applet and payment networks (Visa/Mastercard certified).

Toyota Tacoma (Smart Key) UHF / proprietary 315 MHz
Mercedes Sprinter (Keyless) UHF / proprietary 315–433 MHz
Kwikset smart lock Depends on model 125 kHz or 13.56 MHz
Credit card (tap-to-pay) NFC (ISO 14443-A) 13.56 MHz

Does this all sound correct? Which Dangerous Things products should I purchase?
I appreciate the help. This isn’t my area of expertise or interest - just looking for a positive outcome to promote optimism.

Is this putting electronics into a fake finger? Do you want to make it a prosthetic or put it in a glove?

If you go down the prosthetic route, we can certainly help you with your projects incorporating RFID into them.

The prosthetic may potentially provide you with advantages us “normy reachies” dont get.

I’m inbetween airports at the moment so I cant fully reply at the moment.

a couple of quick bullet points,

  • The UHF in key fobs we can work around, but incorporating the keyfobs into the design.
    Here is my first link as a suggestion to get you started down the right track
  • The payment- will depend on what country you are in, BUT the prosthetic may open up other options

Use your flipper to scan the fob and let us know which one you have.

Implant suggestions will come in time once we have more info from you.

For now, I would suggest getting started with a test card pack. (always better to test on cheaper cards rather than your implant(s))

Unless you have a specific need for it, which at the moment it doesn’t look like you do, you wont need the gen3.

The J3R180 is a Possible, but rather than that, you may be better off getting an APEX (same same but differnet, but APEX may be your payment option)

The UG4 is a nice add on, as it is the best magic card avaliable and may be a solution for some of your projects.
Also, the Flipper is now more capable of playing with these.

One more thing for you to consider, is a PM3, The Flipper is capable of most HF and LF RFID diagnostics, but the PM3 has some added functionality (there is a learning curve and not as plug n play as the flipper, but another good investment)

I generally use my Flipper for MOST things, but sometimes I need my PM3.

Correct, electronics into the prosthesis - like this example I mocked up for the doctors (not my hand, I wish my injuries were that clean).

My dude! Thank you for your knowledge and sense of humor! Sooo helpful and uplifting, you almost made me “get a little dust in my eye”.

  1. Ian Davis is new to me. What a badass?! The real Tony Stark right there.
  2. @turbo2ltr ‘s Factory Keyless thread seems helpful and makes me hopeful this is all possible, although the whole thing reads like unintelligible scottish to me.
  3. As for payment, I’m US-based and just “down the road” from Bellingham & Seattle in the Columbia River Gorge. Happy to make the trek north if it means getting some hands-on (at least most of my hands) with the Dangerous Things folks.
  4. I will FLIPPER the shit out of my home locks and the Motogadget ignition tomorrow. Excited to make progress.
  5. I ordered the test cards and will start pulling codes from what I can. For my own clarity, the benefit of these testcards is that they are large, easy to test, and reprogram so that when the time comes, I can scale down to small implant sized chips, correct? Essentially, in the final production, would everything be capable of fitting in one or two finger tips?

So what are the sizes of the prosthetic fingers? It sounds like you might fit the entire DT webstore in there :wink:

My girlfriend has 1 prosthetic finger (2/3 of a finger) and stopped wearing it after 6 months. It has no actual use, other than the eye. Also: the color of the hand changes in summer, zo she either needed a winter finger AND a summer finger, so she stopped wearing it. So even though it is a great idea to use the situation to make a transition to a cyborg, you might want to consider if you really want it in your prosthetic fingers.
Also: If you enjoy the practical use cases for your implants you just might want to allways have them on you, not just when wearing the prosthetics :wink:

If we are smart about it, but fingertips are not really reccomended for fleshy fingertips, because even though they are small, they take up quite a bit of real estate in such a small space.
Your situation is different, and advantageous because you can possibly get Flex implants which have better coupling and range than a smaller xSeries into the prosthetics.

Do need to consider collision. If multiple chips of the same frequency are jammed close together into one finger, it becomes hard to select the correct one to scan. But in the space I’m imagining you have to work with, you could fit one chip of each frequency in each prosthetic finger (usually 13.56 MHz and 125 kHz), and chips with good long antennae like the flexies have. How many phalanges are you replacing?

If it had RFID functionality, then it would have a use and a reason to wear more regularly. True though, that one could ditch the fingers and implant the chips somewhere else.
