Proxmark3 Com Port issue

Hello All,
I used to use my Proxmark3 a while ago (back in 2018) in order to copy LF Visa2000 badge for myself, and it was working.
Unfortunately, I’ve tried again now to plug to Proxmark3 and my computer do not recognise the COM port for my Proxmark3. When I go on device manager on Windows 7, I have not the COM port neither anything related to the Proxmark3.

I’ve tried to reset the proxmark3 by pushing the button (unplugged device) and the plug the Proxmark on the USB port. Indeed green (A) and Orange (C) LED are on but when I release the button, blue LED (D) blinck once and then switches off.

When plugged, when I press and hold the button for 3 seconds, LED are blinking and then Red (B), Orange (C) Blue (D) are on, but not the green (A) one.

Can you please help me ?

Many thanks,

Windows 7 needs a driver installed for the COM port. This driver is included in Windows Update native driver packs for Win10+

Hello Amal,
Thanks for your response. This issue here is that the Proxmark3 doesn’t appear at all on the device manager. It’s even not appearing as “unknowned port” where I can click and update with the driver downloaded from the website. Is there a way to hardly reboot the device ?
Many thanks to you.

Hmm is this proxmark3 running Iceman firmware and bootloader?

Are you sure the USB cable you’re using supports data and not just power?

ah yes this is also a classic troubleshooting step i always forget about… happens more than i would imagine but makes sense.

Basically if your proxmark3 has the old “main branch” firmware and bootloader, then there is an entirely different driver needed that isn’t even a COM port driver… but this is highly unlikely as even the main branch firmware switched to virtual COM a long time ago.

I still have a few of these floating around. Whenever I find out I have a power-only cable, I wrap some electrical tape around one of the ends, to signify “electricity only”

Then years later, wonder why I have this box of USB cables with tape on them…

AND
You are plugged into the Short edge (Computer Talky Hole) NOT the long side

Hello All,
Many thanks for your help and message.
If you face the same issue than me, I have been able to solve it thanks to people advice from this forum!
I’ve spent a LOT of time tring to solve the issue, but finally it was a easy one…

Issue : impossible to detect COM or Proxmark
Solving issue: changing cable. I took a Samsung micro USB cable which transfert data, instead of a cheap charging (only) cable.

Thanks to all
