Question about tuya smart lock and NExT implant

Hey all im kc ok so i ordered my NExT implant (very excited honestly like a kid at xmas) anywho i have a question regarding its compatibility with the tuya f5 smart lock and if i can clone its rfid cards and write them to the next chip if ive posted this in the wrong place im sorry cheers

Do you have a link to the lock?

Is it a LF lock or HF? If the former, probably. If the later, probably not.

Most Tuya locks in my experience use a Mifare card which is HF.

They also have a very hard time coupling with the NExT as they are very low powered.

I do not own one of these specific locks, therefore , the following is just my best guess…

The cards are likely Mifare Classic, HOWEVER
As you own in the lock, you don’t need to copy the cards. You simply enroll your NExT NTAG which should also be compatiable.

I can forsee two “problems”

  1. You may find it difficult to get a reading from an xSeries on a battery powered lock
    BUT
If you grab yourself a set of repeater stickers from Hamspiced, It may just work for you.
  1. Patience
Don’t expect your best performance from your NExT until it has been installed for 2 weeks or longer

Nope, you’re all good

If it is hf can i get the Xm1 and use that?

Your NExT SHOULD be fine.

The best way to confirm this is with an
NTAG216 test card.

If your planning on getting into the RFID world, a Test Card Pack is worth purchasing

Ok will definitely be getting a pack asap thanks for the tip and give it a try cheers from kc

I have one of these and a very similar lock. Had the xM1 installed for that reason. Still no luck with getting a read on an X series. You could well get one on a flex.

I also have the repeater sticker installed on mine. The problem is my lock at least has some hard rubbery stuff in it to weatherproof it. It was a nightmare to try and remove it, to the point I gave up. My point is, there was nowhere to put the sticker as the reader is in the centre of the keypad and I think you would need to install the sticker on the inside or relocate the antenna. Again this may be an issue as the surrounds of my lock are metal…

I wasn’t able to get my NExT to enroll using HF either. That said, who knows who makes these things and there seem to be a lot of varieties so hopefully you will have some success.

Another option is to look at a powered reader and a magnetic latch which can be released via a control board. That way you can turn any lock into a RFID one, but it takes some making around.

Good luck. I hope it goes well for you. Please keep us updated.

I have used this particular lock and it struggles to read fobs and 25mm disc tags… The range it terrible but I have yet to try a resonant repeater on it. Mainly because it’s not my lock.

However, I can happily report that it works with DESFire EV1 and NTAG215 chips just fine.

Added to cart…

Sonwhat your saying is it works withthe desfire but wont work with the next is that correct?

compatiable and works with are two different things.

xSeries have tiny antennas and they can struggke to couple with some readers (like your door lock)

My Guess for the “best” implant for your lock would be a FlexNT(once you have confirmed the lock is NTAG216 compatiable)
Otherwise a FlexM1

Normally I would suggest a one for one swap, which in this lock, is likely the FlexM1

But performance wise(coupling range), although the FlexM1s are great for their size, the FlexNT is even better

(*****) FlexNT :flexnt: The most underated/ under appreciated implant?

If however you only want an xSeries, then an xMagic would be the one for one then your NExT as a good alternative.
HOWEVER
the coupling will be your issue to contend with. Thats why I suggesed the repeater stickers for you.
But
@TSMC55 has already helped you out with locating the antenna and some expectations.
And from his comments, you might ha e some modifications required

@TSMC55 has the more relevant info about what to expect from your lock, so listen to him over me.

My experience is from my own lock (similar, bit not the same) and mine will only work with a Flex.

Although, I do have some repeaters that I can test with the lock using my xMagic and NExT, BUT i am away from home for another 4 days

What we haven’t discussed is the antenna and how to approach it with an implant.
An xSeries best approach is Perpendicular.
Flex is parallel.
Just bear that in mind when you are doing your testing

No, it works with a chip that’s very similar with the one in the NExT so I assume that it will work with an NTAG216 just fine.

Range is the problem with these locks. a 25mm fob or tag requires contact with the keypad in order to read. So I doubt that any x series will work with it.
