I walk with a cane that has a decorative ring that is removable. It is the metal ring at the joint on the cane. The ring is a size 14.5. What I want is either a broader ring that I can substitute for that, or maybe wrap ai implantable chip around the inside of one of the existing rings.
I want to duplicate my university ID into it, and possible a credit card so I can wave it at the coke machine on campus.
Can anyone provide guidance on what to buy? Thank you for your time.
Bro are you going to wave your cane at a coke machine to summon a beverage like some sort of wizard? Keep me posted because the swagger on you must be immense.
I would think you could get any variety of rings that could be put on if you can unscrew the cane at a certain point.
University is still on the same setup. When I did the previous work up, I did the acetone strip on the previous card and set that inside the screw for the handle. Proximity to the screw kept screwing up the read and my nervous system condition has progressed and I can solder well enough to reattach the filaments.
The cane’s I use would be about a size 14.5 or 15 if a person wore them for the ring that sits between the handle and the shaft.
When I dug around on the site, all the rings of that size are sold out. So I’m looking for guidance. I can mount things to the inside face of the ring, but they have to be flexible. My hands shake too much now to do soldering work so it would have to be self contained. And I’ve only done this once with the previous setup and the loose copper strand couldn’t be insulated from the metal ring well enough (by me) to not screw up the response at the card reader.
And yes. It’s a complete pimp stick. I teach software engineering, artificial intelligence development, and cyber warfare and we hide some of our red teaming stuff for competition in my canes.
My ability to wave my cane at the security doors on campus, or as payment at coke machines and such has recruited a stunning amount of students from other majors into our department. We did one for a co-worker with his car key fobs and that’s been a fun one for the students as well.
This is fascinating, thanks for the link. I’ve talked with some LEO in the past that have had to go through years of therapy because they were tasked with sorting through all the sick shit people download. The fact that you were able to help with that is amazing. Keep up the great work.
Yeah, when I found out what the average victim’s age was in this, I couldn’t do anything but help. When the students got involved we actually got complaints from other professors that my students had stopped doing any work for any of their other classes because they wanted to “fix” this. I’ve never been prouder of them.
I’ve searched for a mens size 16 RFID ring for a couple years. The ones noted on this site are sold out and due to the expense of short production runs, not likely to be repeated, so I simply bought an injectable chip.
I have the xSIID and it works as advertised for our door locks. I suspect you would need a tech to authorize your chip to use a university door lock, although I used a read/right programmer to read my daughters access card, and clone a key fob for her that worked just fine at her school.
If you can’t find a ring, it would be simple to rout out a slot in your cane and insert a chip with some epoxy. I suspect there are cheaper ways to get RFID in your can though. I like your idea.
My students have decided to replace the metal screw in my cane with one of those construction fiberglass inserts that have a pressure ratio of something like 200,000 psi to break. They’ve got the engineering college fabbing it for us. The metal screw passing inside of the copper wiring in the ring was causing magnetic issues and preventing the weaker signals from working correctly. I’ll let you know how it goes.
