I guess that I could add the Fenix E03R v2.0 to the list of lights. Although what I’m looking for is a light that isn’t glued together so that the battery can be replaced when it gives up the ghost.
And well, I could replace the battery in the Tini and deal with the corrosion that it has around the buttons. I was looking for an upgrade, maybe because I’m trying to distract myself from all the stress that I have IRL.
I think that I’m going to get the ThruNite, finding a flashlight with a red LED that ticks all the boxes is harder than I thought. And I’m also getting a new battery for the Nitecore.
Professionally I’ve found Nitecore to be unreliable and have a high failure rate. 5.11 has been reliable and my go to, especially as they only need aa or aaa batteries. Not a fan of the metal cases for sound and light reflection but a roll of hockey tape takes care of that. If budget is no issue then i highly recommend surefire but trying to get cr123 batteries when overseas can be a bitch if you have to carry your own resupplies.
Someone did post it, but it was taken down lol
Packetaduitor’s post was making fun of the person’s description of the vape in the photo that talked about the vape being a reversed engineered RFID/NFC thingy with a microphone.
Edited to remove the photo since the post it was in reference to was deleted.
I don’t often use flashlights professionally. But I have a Coast PX20 because it’s good to have a red light on an aircraft, although I dislike how easy it is to turn it on in the wrong color.
And I’m getting the impression that we’ve got a few military cyborgs on the forum.
Mine has quite a bit of corrosion around the buttons, combine that with a puffy battery, and the annoying quirks that it has like the low battery flash that lasts for hours and won’t let you sleep, and you’ll understand why I’m thinking of getting a new one instead.
Thanks a lot for the recommendation.
Something tells me that you live in the US. I don’t but those are still available elsewhere, although AAA and AA batteries are the easiest to find regardless of where you are.
I’m a civilian looking for a small but durable rechargable flashlight with a USB C port, a red beam, and a battery that’s replaceable. Even if doing so requires a screwdriver and a soldering iron. I think that I’ll have to settle for one that ticks most of the boxes or design my own.
Also, I’m surprised that a red LED is not a standard feature on most flashlights that have a microcontroller and a dozen modes? And why is a flashing red or red/blue light the default!? I want to preserve my night vision, not to pretend to be a police officer! And I can go through a few different modes if I need a warning light, but not if I really need some light in an emergency at night.
These are not super bright, but have a number of really useful features
Not your standard torch form factor, because Its a head torch, but also because of the retractable cable will fit onto a wrist, hat, drink bottle etc.
The Olight Oclip fits the bill if you’re okay with a clip light.
White/red light, USB-C charging. No idea about battery replaceability, but it’s pretty inexpensive, so you could buy two and save one for later. It does also have a lifetime warranty, so maybe if the battery wears out you could get a new one.
RovyVon Angel Eyes E8 Keychain Flashlight, 700 Lumens, AAA Battery Compatible, USB C Rechargeable EDC Flashlight (365nm Blacklight/Red/White) Amazon.com
It has two buttons, one to turn the front light on and one to turn the sidelight on. The sidelight is one click for white, two clicks for red, three clicks for UV. The red light comes on on whichever mode you last had it on (solid, sos, flashing). The buttons can be locked out (4 clicks on the top button I think).
I am pretty sure the lithium battery is a standard size, so you should be able to replace it. The innards appear to be held in with some very small torx screws. It is USB C rechargable, and takes a AAA battery as a secondary power source. I use a Pale Blue AAA battery in there which is USB C rechargeable. So I can recharge both sides with the same cable and worst case I can use a regular disposable AAA.
Non-mil, private sector. But as solo operatives we dont have the luxury of fancy budgets of the bigger commercial organisations. Covid kinda fucked our workload and ability for regular assignments to keep the cashflow going. Also the type of gear i carry can attract the wrong attention from customs/ local LE so most of my international carry tends to be low profile. Unfortunately there are a lot of corrupt mil and LE in asia who also like to pinch your gear.
Non-US based. Primary hub is europe, secondary is south east asia. CR123 are expensive in europe, and in asia tend to be very expensive and no way of knowing if buying genuine or poor quality clones. If im on task, ive got more chance of picking up spare batteries i need from most local convenience stores if im desperate. And god help losing gear on task, if ive got a pocket full of cr123 batteries then it’s a waste if im getting a flashlight from the local hardware store that doesnt use them! For me it’s about what i can utilise on the fly and keeping my load light.
Im a fan of cheap red led coin lights as admittedly red light is not too much of a need can get handfulsof them for cheap from aliexpress. I do keep a contact lense case with two watch batteries and one red and one green led for emergency markers. Im not a ninja, sometimes low light is all you want. Just wanna see, not be seen sometimes.
In my pockets, it’s usually just my phone and credit card. I’m thinking about getting a slim wallet, though, something to carry a bit of cash and those cards more comfortably. I’ve been eyeing some leather ones, like this one, but I’m wondering if they’re really worth the investment. Are they durable enough to justify the price? Anyone have experience with leather wallets that can weigh in on whether they’re worth it?
Not only does leather last a long time but it ages attractively. I have a tan wallet that looks more characterful than it did when I got it a few years ago.
It even has its own subdermal implant!
edit: My google-foo is failing me. Do you have a link for it?
edit edit: I found some on amazon and ebay but none are your version with the inch markings. Not a deal breaker but not as nice. Do you know if the kickstarter people plan on selling more?
