The anti🚫-derailment🚃 & thread🧵 hijackingšŸ”« thread🧵 ⁉

yeah .. I mean if it were AC then I might see some paramagnetic magic happening where it might ā€œfloatā€ in the alternating field, but a boatload of DC power means one honkin strong polarized field. Unless the cables ran all around that area, like in the ground, walls, and maybe even above, then maybe things would behave that way?

AC and eddy currents are the first thing I thought about when I saw the video… But still, what on earth is going on over there and who ran the wiring?

Does that preclude you from understanding physics!? Are university degrees that powerful!?

I have what I would consider very rudimentary knowledge on the subject. However, outside of an educational setting, I have done very little research.

Do I understand physics? I suppose I passed every class I ever took on the subject with a 4.0, but that means nothing in such an immense field. It’s the bare minimum.

In this instance I can tell you that ā€œsome magnetic field is likely having an effect on the carabiniersā€. Past that, I don’t know much.

I just don’t like the ā€œI don’t have a degreeā€ argument as it tends to imply that knowledge con only be gained though schooling, or that asking for permission from a school or university is required in order to learn. Both of those statements are blatantly false.

I’d rather leave things at ā€œi don’t knowā€ while leaving the door open to learning if I’m not curious enough at the time. But most of the time, I find myself in rabbit hole reading about obscure stuff.

You have access to that facility, right? Can you try the same thing again, but with the carabiners open? Use a piece of tape or something if they’re spring-loaded.

Silly video online that I thought was funny in the context of the forum

In the most blunt and unprofessional way possible, it’s not that deep, brother. I couldn’t care less about what degrees people hold in most settings.

Just my way of saying ā€œyeah not my field of knowledgeā€. If I was aware that the particular word choice was problematic, I would have chosen other words.

This context was gleaned from the original poster of the footage, or perhaps a comment of theirs.

I stand to be corrected, but I dont think that was what enginerd had an issue with.

With regards to having to choose your words, I wouldn’t overthink it as long as your intention isn’t to offend, then others shouldn’t be offended.

I’ve seen plenty of people limit themselves because of that, hence why I bring it up.

Yeah, nothing to do with problematic nonsense… I’m just saying ā€œdon’t limit what you allow yourself to learnā€

I agree! Also, good luck offending me. How did we end up talking about being offended!?

You forgot to mention my hatred for Latin American collectivism which is so strong that it’s actually psychological enmeshment.

I have some opinions about the place where I grew up that would probably get me labeled as problematic by people who don’t speak Spanish.

I need one!

My cat just walked over, laid down, PUT HER HEAD ON MY ARM, SIGHED LIKE A FRICKIN DOG, and WENT TO SLEEP!

Anywho. Stuck here for awhile.

No can do. I was trapped one handed for about 15 minutes, then she just jumps up and runs to check the food bowl.
