The antiđŸš«-derailment🚃 & threadđŸ§” hijackingđŸ”« threadđŸ§” ⁉

FYI I love metric, I just think it is funny how ‘imperial bad’ gets parroted. It isn’t dumb, it actually makes a lot a sense for a lot of situations. That doesn’t mean anyone has to use it, but the fact that we do doesn’t make us idiots.

Never said anything about that. Speak for yourself
 :emoji_thinking:

I love mils for through hole stuff, mm for SMD stuff, and use whatever is easiest depending on the standards of what I’m working on.

Still, I love metric even if the km is a worthless nonsense unit that started off with a huge mistake.

I’m an idiot.

imperial / standard is just antequated thinking from a time when precision tools were limited and calculation were done by hand.

I’m not trying to convert you or anybody else, you do you, Infact keep doing it because it is entertaing for the remaining 96% of the worlds population

Apologies 24/25ths

I want to know what the point is of making fun of Americans for using a system that actually works fine, because all it does is reinforce a stereotype and entrench people’s positions.

We could be having a laugh about all sorts of stuff, but you have a need to ‘other’ a specific population because you believe that divisors of ten make so much more sense than divisors of twelve, which has no basis in anything besides the number of fingers that we have.

I really hope you take a minute to reflect on exactly what you are trying to accomplish here.

It’s just jokes. I don’t think anybody here is really all that worked up about measurement systems. The “anything but metric” is a long running joke here on the forum

Well, as an American, I’m having a laugh with my metric friends, who know I find it funny too.

Ever get together with a group of friends and everyone gets picked on, with a genuinely friendly ribbing?

That’s what I’m doing.
Besides, they can’t help it, and I love my poor metrickey friends just the same. :winking_face_with_tongue:

Considering that I’m sort of the product of two American schools, you can blame them Americans for both my understanding of metric and my hatred of fractions

Maybe I am being overly sensitive, or was just having a bad day. But ‘just joking’ when it targets someone or a group of people because of an aspect that makes them different from a group has a definition. Maybe it applies here maybe it doesn’t; all I know is that the topic is just asking for this type of conflict. There are all kinds of aspects of culture that can be targeted once it is agreed that is a valid thing to target for jokes.

It’s not my forum and I’m not going to make any more of a thing out of it.

it’s everybody’s forum, your opinion is as valid as anybody else.

I am not offended by anyone. I was voicing a concern. I hope you understand the difference.

The only thing about this forum I find offensive is the use of Discourse as the platform.

Haha really? I’ve found it to be quite the useful platform - open source and definitely capable. What others might one suggest?

Lack of pagination, inability to select text from or save a whole thread, broken scrolling, broken search, overengineered, gamification. It was designed for engagement, not usability.

But mainly I just can’t stand the way it does infinite scrolling. All other things are secondary.

Fun read: (edit: the user codinghorror is Jeff Atwood, the creator of discourse)

Anything else.

Edit: I am highly opinionated about software, in case it wasn’t obvious.

Edit 2: I apologize for being a dick.

Discourse has a built-in print function

While on the thread, simply press Ctrl + P in Windows or Mac equivalent

Discourse will automatically try to load all posts and format them into a printer-friendly layout. You can then select “Save as PDF”

I think there might be another way too

I haven’t seen that, do you have an Example or screenshot

My experience has been quite the opposite

Example?
You mean the retorts? Badges?

Personally I find it both

Untill you get to the bottom of the thread, and the average number of posts per thread would be fewer than 10.

They thread, the we are in is the obvious huge exception to the rule

oh it was obvious  that’s ok though. I’d rather have people with in-depth opinions, even if I don’t agree with the entirety of them.

hahah I’ve used others
vBulletin, phpBB, etc.. and I simply like Discourse from an easy to deploy, easy to admin, decent features, good plugin framework, good plugin availability, open source, free standpoint.

It’s a chill vibe here.. no apology needed.. we’re all just having a bit of fun
