Yep, I’ve played with those… stupid fun

… waaaaay to expensive to justify for most things

How bad are the cheap EM fobs? I’m thinking of buying a few and want to know if the cheap ones can take abuse or if it’s better to buy something nicer like the Visionis ones?

Want some xEM to test out? I’d be curious to see if there’s any difference between void first vs void last arrangement. Happen to have a high speed camera? Might be fun to team up with a YouTuber that does

I might be doing this wrong…

I’ve got a pile of Chinese crappy chips, those would be fodder before anything DT quality

Closest I’ve got to slowmo is my phone, can get down to 240fps

I need to get my hands on a more ammo, and I need to remember who’s got a utm bolt to shoot it
(Utm is designed to not work with standard bolts and firing pins, for safety)

I need to get myself some crappy chips for testing things… And some decent fobs as well. It’s not like I can literally lend my hand if one of those fail.

I got a couple orders off Banggood or something like that I think

I also have a bunch of keychain fobs and stickers also

Recently gutted one to steal the chip from it for a covid vaccine ā€œmulti passā€

I’ll post pictures of that project later

I only have fobs and cards. And the fobs I have are potted in a black silicone like gel on the inside. Those are DESFIRE EV1’s. The cards have both an M1 and a T5577 and look like a fluxy mess if you try to shine a light though them.

You asked before if anyone had cheap fobs,
I have severely kinds

What are you looking to do?

I was asking about the durability of the insanely cheap EM4100 fobs. I’m planning to buy a few and read some reviews complaining about those things falling apart so I want to know what to expect.

I though that this was the place to ask for more information about this.

The ones I have aren’t em, they’ve been t5577s or ntag215s

But all of them have been the same construction, copper antenna coil, and sealed in a disc of epoxy, not unlike the flexEM

I can’t imagine breaking one inside the fob, I’ve broken a few trying to mechanically yank them out of the plastic shell, rather than melt it out with acetone

That reminded me of Look around you.

That thing has the academic rigor of a researcher I know… :man_facepalming:t2:

What’s with the oscilloscope? Is it supposed to make things look more scientific?

It is a parody of British School TV Programmes from the 1970’s & 1980’s. Everything is labelled (even the bottle of ā€œUnknown Substanceā€). In one of the later episodes the pencil is labelled ā€œpencilā€.

None of it makes any sense, and most of it is not true. Except for the Helvetica Scenario.

That’s obvious…

Aah, the great Finnish sense of humor. Very Pythonesque, only so much so that you’re never quite sure whether it’s for real of if it’s total bullshit (or if it’s utter life desperation mixed with a large helping of irony) - and that’s a huge part of the amusement for the Finns

I highly recommend Finnish humor. It’s every bit as enjoyable as British humor, but much less obvious.

You know what? I went to my local big box sports store to get my skis serviced today, and they had one pair of those NRS Paddle Wetshoes left, half price, just my size. They weren’t even listed on their site. Strange… So I picked them up: they were cheap and they were immediately available, so it’s okay.

You’re right: the soles are thick and rigid (at least compared to a neoperene sock), so I get very little feedback from the ground. It’s like walking blind. So they’re flexible shoes more than anything else. But they have one thing going for them if you have wide feet: the toebox is really quite capacious. Worth mentioning for those who are constantly on the lookout for shoes that don’t torture their tootsies.

The store also had those on sale:

Half price too, so I picked them up as well. They have a rubber sole too like the NRSs, but they’re thinner and they let a lot more tactile information through. Not as much as the no-sole neoprene booties, but maybe half-way between the NRSs and bare neoprene. So not perfect from a tactile point of view, but much more durable than bare neoprene. At least that’s the hope: I’ve yet to do a couple of hikes with both to confirm that they don’t perform like crap in the cold.

I’m interested to hear how they go.

Halve your test time by wearing one type on either foot :+1:
I’m here to help
