Nice!
One of the many regrets I had when I broke up with my Ex last year, I had half the house (half the lights and switches, multiple temp/humidity sensors, thermostat, garage door, washer/dryer/sump pump etc) all wired up into HA. Not enough time to re-wire everything back to normal when I left.
Lots of fun projects and things to do.
Oh dang, that sucks!
Iām just in a small 1 bed apartment, but Iāve got over 20 animal enclosures of various sizes to monitor. Plus I want to try automating the misting of various enclosures with HA, and maybe some auto feeding for one enclosure.
If it works out for the monitoring, I might end up doing the same the pet store I frequent.
Yeah, they can be nice for critter monitoring, once you get one setup and programmed you should be able to replicate it on a larger scale.
Right now, Iāve got all of 1 smart plug running a lamp. Got a couple half-finished projects, going to tie into the garage door opener here and also a lock for my mini fridge.
Company paid housing, so I canāt go too crazy.
Nice!
I want to get some smart plugs set up too.
Thereās a chance I might move into a fixer upper within a year. If I did, I might not see the light of day for a few months working on a bunch of HA projects XD
Stargazer was right, it can easily become an addiction! haha
Yup, huge addiction. Especially when you add in some help from your phone with Tasker or the like. Come home, once your phone connects to home wifi (or can use GPS, but that was usually slower for me), garage door opensā¦ Those cheap little bluetooth temp/humidity sensors sprinkled all around the house. Could check to see what cycle the washing machine was on by the amount of power it was using and get a text when it finished (all on a cheap non-smart unit) etc etc
That would be amazing!
So I collected a bunch of x10 stuff. Iāve had it for years, and Iām not in a position to use it. Almost all of it new in box, some receipts from 1987 and 1999. Outdated, but should all still work, especially if youāre unable to physically mod your living situation.
If one of you wants to cover shipping, itās all yours.
Thank you! Iām good with the what Iāve got at the moment but I appreciate it!
No thanks, I have a box full of relays and ESPās etc, and SONOFF devices. Been building my own interfaces.
Getting the FlexUG4 and xG3 installed Wedā¦
And my first name is Martinā¦
Just realized, one of my co-workers may be quick witted enough to start calling me āMartin Magnet-Handsā
Iāll have to get a second one for the other hand then I guess.
Heh, I caution against putting magnets in both hands. I did this and regret it. Devices canāt be trusted for spot navigation because of magnetometer issuesāyou can watch the over all trend for direction of travel but you canāt just see what direction youāre facingā¦ I need to remove the one in my left hand. Should we record it?
Yeah, I already have enough navigational issues, and have had a GPS nav unit try to kill me twiceā¦
Thinking about getting my two blinkies removed actually, one is kinda buried and barely usable, the other is right up on the bone just behind a knuckle. It gets banged on everything
+1 on that, having a magnet free hand is necessary in many situations
Always we need that gory content
I actually had this happen once driving in PA in the darkā¦ told me to take an on-ramp to a highwayā¦ it was a big 270 degree curve and Iām goin around this thing at like 40mph and suddenly there is just a āroad closedā sign across the whole on-ramp with no indication at the start it was closedā¦ like it was so old and closed for so long like āobviously everyone knows this on-ramp is closedā kind of thingā¦ nearly shattered my ankle standing on the break pedal.
Hehe, I had an old Garmin GPS nav unit years agoā¦ worked great in Minnesota. Took it with me to Florida for a couple weeks and not so good.
Trying to find a post office in Sarasota. First time it drove me into an apartment complex lot, wanted me to make a Right turn between two parking spaces and down the hill into a lake.
Second time (the next day) still trying to find a post office (picked a different one this time) told me I had āArrived at my destinationā as Iām crossing onto railroad tracksā¦
Tried to use a Garmin GPS in Germany and wanted to do one of the castle boat tours and it nearly turned my car into a boat right into the rhine
