I actually finally finished it two months ago. Took a large hiatus when they jumped the shark
Thereās a little forum oddity/easter-egg Iāve noticed, and I wonder if it affects anyone else
Every once in a while when Iām scrolling back through threads, I come a cross a video that doesnāt use the correct thumbnail, instead loading a familiar gif:
Hereās a link to some examples:
Is it just my system somehow? Do those videos load properly for anyone?
Iām looking for a Titan and I thought I might just leave this here so maybe more people will see it
I got the VivoKey Apex Flex installed at an experienced piercer. It works just fine and I can even read it through my thick phone case (yet to find a good reader for desktop tho).
Iām very happy with the chip itself, but the needle that came with it wasnāt all that sharp, which obviously caused a lot of pain during the installation process. Been over a week now and it is healing fine, so thatās a relief.
I like ACR1252u for desktop.
Haha nice!
The penguins have started their cyber warfare!
Penguins are naturally good at cyber warfareā¦
I hear this from time to time. I assure you the needles are sharp. Generally, when there are comments about the needle not being sharp, itās because the professional did not apply the lubrication supplied in the sachet with the product. Without any lubrication, skin that has been properly prepped with alcohol based antiseptic will be extremely tacky and grip the needle as they try to insert it.
Can you confirm they used lubrication on the needle or did they just shove it in without lube?
I know my piercer used lube,⦠Idk if Iād say it wasnāt sharp⦠but it took a lot more effort to get it thru skin⦠vid is floating around somewhere
After doing 2 self installs and assisting my wife with my 3rd (self)install. It takes a lot more force then you mentally think to push these large guage needles through. definatey more than i thought it would, or i have some pretty strong skin.
I have the same experience. In fact you put so much force that when the skin finally brakes Iām always scared Iāll stab myself all the way through
Turns out thereās enough resistance that that doesnāt happen but that little release always feels weird.
My bet is they got hung up on the back side of the bevel. Thatās because skin was collecting in the hollow as the needle was going in⦠this is the whole bevel up versus bevel down thing in action. If thereās plenty of lube and the point slides in easily, but you get hung up right at the backside then itās definitely an issue of skin getting caught because the bevel is up⦠though going beveled down takes a lot more skill and practice to get it right without piercing back out through the skin from underneath.
Generally, the best approach is to insert the needle up until that point, then make small twisting motions to rotate the needle just a few degrees in either direction while applying pressure. This is usually enough to work the skin out of the needle hollow enough to finally let the entire bevel slip under the skin.
Just doing a bit of a twist can really help get the bevel under the skin⦠especially with these large gauge needles

How many installs (back to back) can a needle holdup?
Everytime it blunts the edge worse and worse on a microscopic level⦠so I donāt think itās recommended more than onceā¦
You could makes get away with 2 or so if your doing them at the same time⦠anything else and why bother trying to reuse and dulled and dirty needle when they are cheap
Thereās a cool infographic about hospital hypdoermic needles dulling, Iāll see if I can find it
What poor S.O.B. got that 6th jab?
Ouch.
Gel or cadaver maybe
Yeah, he did use the lube, could not say if bevel-down or up tho, canāt quite remember, could also be that I didnāt look at all. He said something about it being sharpened only on one side or smth, but Iām not a needle expert, so I got lost in the jargon he used.
