I have one of these, they run their own custom version of openwrt but I think you should be able to flash the normal version without issue. Itā€™s pretty cheap at like $40

Oh, they also have this one. Thereā€™s a version with removable external antennas

Nice pair of vents you got there

Off course Iā€™ll be, itā€™d get annoying pretty quickly otherwiseā€¦

Those are present on most Gundam designs. Although the AI generated ones look a bit weird.

Hopefully you wonā€™t get disappointed if I end up omitting those.

I have a GL-iNet router already and itā€™s one of the models that is supported by the official openwrt project and I love it.

Iā€™ll look into their cheaper options with removable antennas. These products feel so weird nowadays, back when I was messing with open source router firmwares you could buy one of several TP-Link models and get an Atheros chipset with an awesome radio in a product with detachable antennas.

Now that Qualcomm bought Atheros, the open source side of things has dwindled on their platforms and Mediatek is becoming the standard. So everything different and more confusing now. Also, detachable antennas are becoming rare, which is fine for most users but annoying if you want to set up a point to point link or cover a large outdoor area. Still, high gain antennas require care and you should read the regulations regarding EIRP before using them.

Back in the day, I messed with antenna design and distributed element filters and it helped me survive a dark time.

Qualcomm really is a blight on the open source community. If they were better about main-lining their Linux support it would be a different story, but its one of the reasons why mobile Linux hasnā€™t taken off

Iā€™ll settle for two big rotary knobs that light up when you spin them hard enough. No less.

Speaking of which, this is awesome:

And it bothers me that they bought out the company that used to make the best WiFi chipsets on the market. I still have an Alfa AWUS036NHA that I absolutely love even if itā€™s Mini USB. That card is absolutely amazing for anything regarding the 2.4GHz band.

I see that you want to twiddle my knobsā€¦

Why is there no interest in the V-Fin and +45 -45 polarisation?

This is so crazyā€¦ itā€™s along the same lines as repeater stickers and PCB antenna design itself because itā€™s coils on PCBs.

Iā€™ve been following his work on this for a couple years now. He does a lot of PCB design that is very out of the normal.

He tried making a self assembling PCB hot plate. Which I thought was absolutely genius.

You own the hardware, but not the software.
By using the software you agree to allow the owner to said software to do what they want.

You can not extract a firmware and share it online, nor use it in any commercial capacity because you do not own it. The only legal way to extract a firmware and share some sections is if you are doing it under the umbrella of security research.

He started with the FelxAR a flexible actuator with a coil on a flex pcb https://microbots.io/

FlexARā€¦ That sound a lot like a DT productā€¦ :astonished:

I completely understand their argument, but itā€™s still a questionable practice in my opinion. I mean, what if I was like hey, you own your implant but the software in it is mine and I decided to broadcast a signal from my mystery drones flying over various US cities to communicate with the hardware you own in order to deactivate my software inside your hardware.

Technically legally sound but still questionable because at the end of the day you purchased a thing that does a thing regardless of any external services I may or may not provideā€¦ and yet I can still be like ā€œnopeā€ and make that thing you purchased stop working or work in a different way which was not what you purchased. Imagine a shovel not digging anymore because I decided the attachment software keeping the head affixed to the handle wasnā€™t worth maintaining and so I just decided to deactivate all shovels.

To me it sounds like a floppy rifle.

Questionable at best, especially when it might not be practical or possible to develop new software for the hardware. Some embedded CPUs require development tools that are behind NDAs, taking things apart to flash new firmware might be required and difficult for glued devices. And sometimes you run into some deprecated architecture like ubicom32ā€¦

Is DT working on an implantable gun!? That is awesome!

Yeah GitHub, I checked, it sucks, so what?

Am I supposed to pack all my things, move to another more developed country, make a life there, get a new internet subscriptā€¦Yeah Iā€™m technically doing all that atm but thatā€™s not the point!

Iā€™ve been trying to push this big commit for two days now, can anyone send me some wifi?

Iā€™m setting up a nice 2.5gb network here in the middle of South Americaā€¦

I really wish that 10gb PoE+ ethernet switches were easy to come byā€¦ Gigabit is decades old FFS!

Probably, but it might take a while to arriveā€¦

Joking aside, can you get Starlink where you live?

Yeah and I was going to but now Iā€™m moving :face_with_diagonal_mouth: I probably will in France
