The anti🚫-derailment🚃 & thread🧵 hijackingšŸ”« thread🧵 ⁉

So I visited a place with high humidity and my sinuses decided to hate me for it…

I don’t know if mold hates me as much as I hate it, or if it’s something else but I really want to leave flesh behind right now…

On Ebaumsworld.

Pretty sure somebody will recognize #10

I recognized a few…

#1 isn’t technically an implant

#10 is a classic

Isn’t #13 a peg leg?

There’s a version of #19 in which the transducer is implanted and the exterior unit attaches like the ones on cochlear implants.

#22 is most likely fake.

Assuming you meant #12, that’s the Circadia

While this might have the same degrees of freedom as a human except for the face, it’s kinda creepy… Something something uncanny valley.

But I guess that this sort of thing will lead to better prosthetics in the long run. After all, I think that most people would prefer a replacement that’s as close as possible to biology instead of going with something that’s different even if it was better overall.

I’m still asking to be put in a Boston Dynamics Atlas and not something that emulates flesh, thank you very much.

Why not go a step further to the Metalhead dogs from Black Mirror?

I came here to post this lol

Oh good they can look human when they start attacking…

Looks like me if I dare skip a couple meals

I wonder if it’s a movie prop?

Dropping this here because of the recent uptick in flexEMs: mine died a couple of months ago. Should you be worried? Probably not. Mine is in a pretty mobile spot and it is well documented that I beat the hell out of it. April of 2021 until sometime in December–it hasn’t been a daily use in a bit. 3 years and 8 months.

And since the talk of Apex failures has been on folks’ minds, next month my Apex Mega will have been in for 3 years. Back of the wrist with the direction of install being from the elbow to ensure any migration would be away from the point of flexion. It doesn’t seem to move in slightest when run my hand through the full range of motion. Time will tell.

The algorithm popped this video up for me.

His channel looks interesting. Basically he’s built a replacement hand for his 4 missing fingers, and apparently is trying to run a trial for other people. Not sure if he’s gonna open source or not. Still, very interesting.

I’ve always said I’m not giving up my meat, but if a tragic accident were to happen, I would deep dive into creating something like this.

Also, @enginerd, cause this will tickle your interest.

Can’t believe DARPA hasn’t dropped off a half dozen tanks and a briefcase full of cash and told them to call back when they’re ready to roll.

I’ve always thought it strange how much effort we spend emulating what we have instead of perusing an easier, cheaper, or better solution. When I was at Disneyland as a kid, I saw Asimov on stage, and they demonstrated all the work they’d done to get it to balance on two legs. I thought it rather dumb that they didn’t simply give it more legs.

With ML, legs have become viable, but wheels have become even more viable as well, as in Pilgremaster’s post. I’d rather be uploaded into that cool bike rather than the humanoid puppet. I see that project branching on the one hand into new and creative ways of assembling tendon-based machines, and on the other hand, providing the AI with bodies to impersonate us on the streets like they already do online. Which certainly would be handy if ever I become an AI that needs to pretend to still be human.
