It looks like the two single-chip implants have black epoxy, while the NExT has clear epoxy, just curious if anyone knew why

It’s literally so we can see the position of each antenna rod during production

And I imagine so it doesn’t accidentally block the LEDs too in these cases

Everything with an LED inside uses clear epoxy. Some NExT v1 also used clear epoxy because we had it, but now our NExT v1 inventory is mixed with opaque and clear resin, even though there is no LED in the v1.

Ah, good, eventually they just stopped trying to show me the capcha. I didn’t realize such high resolution screens had come down in price that much. I’ll have to keep that in mind as I start coming up with projects to put my microcontrollers to use.

Yes. Or, it may be that capchas are in fact there to keep the humans out, since AI has an easier time passing them than humans. At this rate, humans will soon have to ask our AI assistants to take us on walks to our favourite websites because the sites won’t let us in without robot supervision.

So I’m looking for a new robot vacuum and I’m kinda confused about the new offerings from iRobot.

The new ones that have a mopping feature use a single pad that doesn’t look as effective, there’s a previous generation model called the 405 that has rotating mops and a lidar but for some reason iRobot appears to be dropping the lidar after a single generation so I’m unsure.

Samsung has a few models that mop but are hard to find. And I don’t know how good they’ll be at selling consumables and replacement batteries in the following decades.

When it comes to the Chinese brands, I’m pretty sure that their products won’t last the 15 years I got out of my old Roomba which probably still works but is in another country. Sure, I had to replace the battery, brushes, and filters multiple times over that time. And I even got an upgraded vacuum bin for it at some point which made the brushes last longer.

And no, I did not ask to get turned into a vacuum.

honestly the chinese ones (at least 3-4 years ago) are leagues better than the iRobot ones. Highly recommend looking at reviews, the new ones are pretty well built

Are spare parts like filters and brushes available for the 4 year old models?

I have a roborock s5 (released at least 4 years ago, probably 5 or 6 at this point) and there are plenty of spares on aliexpress and amazon. Their official US website has replacements for everything except the main brush, which is weird but easy to source from the other sites

I have the s6 and buy brushes etc in bulk from aliexpress. They live in a drawer and will likely outlast the vacuum. Much cheaper than amazon.
