That line is all I meant by “preliminary investigation”… it looks like the fold or bulge you’d see from a compression fit cap. My plan was to take a better look after removing the coating but this line might be an artifact of the coating application itself and not the underlying titanium casing.
the specs say it’s a .2mm wall thickness. The indent looks a bit too shallow for that to be the magnet core?
Would it be possible to reach out to the supplier and order a batch without the coating?
Likely that’s the top and bottom thickness… clearly it’s not uniform… the sides are thicker
Possible but…
- The minimum order quantity would probably be very high
- They would want to know a lot about your business and intended uses I don’t think they would approve
Afaik it’s not coated it’s sand blasted. Amal mentioned coating but I don’t know where that info is from
The magnet that I received definitely has a coating… it’s visible with a stereoscope and can be scraped off, collecting on the edge of a scalpel.
Would that be the case if sandblasted?
It might actually be sand… it kind of looks lumpy under the stereoscopic microscope like sand particles. So strange.
If you could get me the contact information for the request to go to I can handle the details from there.
My point is that the indent doesn’t look to be .2mm thick, and if the sides are actually thicker, then its not the magnet core you’re seeing in the photo
I assumed when I saw this image that you’re saying the mag core is exposed. I’m saying I don’t think that’s the case
Why not?
Maybe we should split threads for the testing&research discussion and rephrase that warning @amal or @Pilgrimsmaster ?
This wasn’t exactly the intended purpose for this thread
because that pocket doesn’t look .2mm > deeper than the outer face
The magnet has been sanded… that’s the same magnet from two different angles. The depth of the magnetic core should be the same as the walls because it’s been sanded down the same. It’s definitely been sanded more than .2 mm
considering i found “Please do not use the product for any other purpose.” in a pdf related to these, this might not be a good idea
Yeah like don’t poke the bear kind of thing
