UniFi Access, anyone?

I’m going to be putting a UniFi Access door lock system in my house, and I’m trying to find an implant (preferably with an LED) that will work with it.

According to their website the cards are MIFARE DESFire, but it also mentions “UniFi Access Proprietary Security Protocol”.

Does anyone here have this system and use an implant with it, or know if it’s possible to clone one of those proprietary cards and which implant I would need?

According to those posts, and the compatibility matrix document I found linked in one of them, it looks like both of the implants I’m planning to get (the xNT and the xSIID) will work! I know the NeXT2 is out now and also works as well, but it isn’t available in the color I want (red).

It does say the Pro readers have a difficult (or impossible) time reading the glass implants, but judging by the dates on those posts and the product pictures from the UniFi web site, it looks like they were referring to the first generation Pro reader. I’ll add info for the 3rd generation once I get my implants and first batch of door hardware.

it’s not possible to clone the unifi cards as they are desfire, but you can use other implants (like the xsiid) to unlock it if you are ok with using UID only as the authenticating method.

this is fairly secure, but is ‘security through obscurity’ as they say. someone could clone the xsiid if they really wanted to. they could also just throw a brick through your window much easier :wink:

if you want to utilize the desfire component of the unifi access cards for the additional security, i designed a conversion board for the unifi cards a few years ago and gave them to Amal, so you could reach out to DT for a custom conversion and get a flexUnifi implant

I’ve seen the flex implants, but that custom 4G needle scares the hell outta me. :scream:

I’ll probably just go with the xSIID cause I want one with an LED in it anyway. :woman_shrugging:t3:

4g needles definitely look intimidating, but they feel basically the same as the xseries needles and scan way easier. i’m personally never going back to xseries after getting a flex

now if only there was a flex blinky… :thinking: :soon:

I was going to suggest the nextv2, but i see you were wanting red instead of one of the superior colors like blue :smiley:

@Satur9 I just had an idea. What if we let the LED smt component float, and instead used somewhat thick gauge copper wire… something thicker than magnet wire… and we attached the LED to the board using far spaced pads and these flexible wires? Without being secured to the flex PCB, it seems like there’s far less chance the internal wire bonded connections would break.

Yeah, red is my color, anything else (currently available) would just seem weird. I could go for purple though, any chance of that one happening @amal?

Purple is difficult because most are actually UV with a little leakage into the visible spectrum. That means, well, UV inside your body which isn’t great but also UV requires the most power to illuminate… the literal electron-volt scale of the visible electromagnetic spectrum plays a role in required energy to cause photons to be emitted.

Oof, okay. I can see why that’s not only a bad idea, and probably not even feasible given the power requirements.

I can confirm I have my NExT (v1) working perfectly with the UniFi Access Reader Lite!

You can basically enroll anything into their system. You don’t need to clone their tags on to your implant.

Mine is in the blade of my hand, and I need to tap it at about a 60 degree angle (I assume this depends how it settles in your hand) and it works every time.

I have a Gen2 Pro reader. It can read my NExT and my Vivo Key Spark 2. Though positioning is crucial, it’ll take some time to learn the best placement in the beginning.
