Here is a terrible sketch of a think I have set up and working. Description will be below to walk through it, clearly it isn’t drawn by Vermier but I thought a picture would help.
So I have a thing… I use voice command now to activate an Alexa routine that activates two smart plugs. One plug activates the device. One plug turns on a count down module that counts down and then opens a circuit inside the device <I need the device to boot for a couple seconds, then break the circuit to deactivate a sleep timer on the device>.
Now I want to build a second one. I’d like to turn it on and off via rfid scan. I have an xAC on the shelf that I got with my magic ring, so I wanted to start there… looking to brainstorm how to get this to turn on (and remain on) or scan to turn off a device.
Also I see a bunch of 5v power supplies, but the Xac is 12v, anyone have a wall plug solution for this?
As far as power goes, pretty much any AC>DC 12v adapter will work. The xAC does not draw that much power, so even if you just have some random one in the ‘junk drawer’ that you’re fine with dismantling, that will work.
This video should help as far as how to deal with the power supply. As far as how to make something turn on and stay on, I think someone was working with a motorcycle starter recently on here.
You may be better off with a tuya board. A lot of them will allow you to select through the app whether they are momentary or each scan causes them to change state. So if on, then turns off and vice versa.
You could then use the xAC as the trigger for the tuya board, so it deals with the scan and closes the NO circuit which then causes the tuya to do the state change.
Depending on what board you obtained, you may also be able to do it completely on the tuya. They are pretty cheap. I have one set on my office door to retract a magnetic latch for 5 seconds so the door can be opened.
I am happy to,go look for the link.
As for power source, you can get them online on eBay very easily too. I have about 3 or 4 lying around as they will occasionally die at the most inconvenient times and then I can swap them out quickly.
I was trying to not get into specifics until it was done… but it’s a lightsaber project using GE sabers. This project will be a Darth Maul saber (which further complicates things as a bunch of stuff needs to occur twice, and some stuff once). Step one is a conversion from DC to AC, step two is tricking the device into thinking that the blades were removed to bypass the 10 minute auto off countdown timer and disable the lightsaber sounds. It will then act as a nice little lamp. My idea for this one is to use my off hand to discretely trigger the RFID reader while gesturing with my dominant hand for misdirection to “use the force” to activate it.
Existing lamp uses two smart switches and voice commands via Alexa to turn on and off the device.
Do you have a specific tuya device I should be searching to find? I found the tuya website and they had a couple different choices, no link to purchase. I searched and ended up on aliexpress, I searched there and ended up with hundreds of different devices.
I was looking at a flip-flop relay board earlier today, but I’m definitely close to over my head. I was also considering an adrino after reading something, but I don’t keep up on this stuff.

I don’t like the tuya app and use smart life. That said it probably sends just as much info about you to the Chinese govt. Lol.
The app should give you the option to set the switch to toggle which should let you swap states.
