Is there a way to get the vivo ring conversation working in Canada? I don’t think any banks or anything works with fidesmo in Canada and the ether.fi isn’t available for any Canadian residents (in there user agreement)
I think the card can work in Canada but you can’t sign up if you’re in Canada (from there user agreement) I can physically sign up but I would be breaking there user agreements
I spent a bit over a week in Quebec recently and had no issues with using my conversion the entire time. The card itself for spending worked fine. In fact it is easier to use than in the USA since Canada is a civilized place where the reader comes to the card and the card need not leave my hand.
The one thing is it works in USD, and compared to CAD they charge a flat 1% fee, and up to 0.5% on top of that. I had found that on their FAQ before going, and the transactions I spot checked all fell somewhere in that 1-1.5% range, Only one was around that 1.5% max, most were around 1.3%. I could not decipher a logic to when/how much of the extra 0.5% was added. It also does not say amount of fee in the transaction log. I was comparing what I was charged to current conversion rates to get the 1.X% number.
Where a transaction requires a currency conversion, ether.fi applies the prevailing FX base rate (~1%) and may add a foreign exchange margin on top of that base rate.
The added margin varies depending on the applicable FX base rate and on the user’s tier, within the following ranges. The added FX fee is charged in addition to the underlying FX base rate and is reflected in the converted amount applied to the transaction.
So if you can you can sign up (however you do that ) and have a good way to load money in, that fee would be the one other thing to consider.
Certainly, I used it for basically everything while I was there. One of my fellow travelers had a card with 3% exchange fee, that they did not realize until post-trip. Still not huge for just a week; but not a fun surprise.
If Roucoul7424 is going to be using it all the time in Canada, I figure it is something worth knowing ahead of time rather than a surprise later. If I were in a similar situation, I would still get it and I use it almost all the time now.
