Sorry, flex disc button… not the same thing, I just call them membrane switches… and yes the idea was to lay it all out on a super thin flexpcb
Month and a half update
The leds are definitely pink/magenta now. The implant has been under pressure and bumped quite a bit and still works fine. I haven’t found a use for the LF yet but I will look into making or buying a receiver to connect it to some IOT maybe. The scar has healed well and is now progressively fading as I keep it constantly covered in the silicone cream.
Overall one of the easiest implantations I’ve had, 10/10 would recommend.
One weird thing though one evening when camping my thumb kept getting stuck when I extended it parallel and close to the index finger. Very disturbing and no way to move it without using the other hand. This went on for a couple hours and then stopped and everything was back to normal. Hard to say if it was the flexNext or an other implant or the fact that I have broken my wrist or the fact that I have injured my thumb before…
I had this happen to me once, although my thumb would get stuck when I curled it inwards towards my palm. It was way before I had any impants and it fixed itself within an hour. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it becomes a regular occurrence.
The thumb thing… That sounds like a stenosing tenosynovitis - aka trigger finger syndrome. I have that in both my pinkies: when I’m tired after a day of typing at the keyboard, in certain positions, my pinkies can lock up in the bent position. Not hard enough to have to use the other hand to unlock it, but it’s annoying.
I don’t think it has anything to do with the implant. But if it becomes a frequent occurence and you have to see a doc, the flexNExT might become an interesting challenge. Certainly a bit of a head scratcher for the doc
Forum question: is it possible to post a post and have it stay editable for a long time, like the original post of this thread seems to have been?
I’m planning on snapping a picture of my wrist every day and stitch together a timelapse animation of the doNExT rotating, should it decide to do so. But it’d be kind of stupid to make a new post every day just for that. I’d rather update the animation in the original post.

Whats the distance between Leds? I have an idea for a tattoo I want to get before getting the FlexNExt and having the distance would be super helpful.

They are engineering custom made led circuits for other implants (apex mega) and eventually if that works out the same tech will be used to bring back the flexNext
And the distance is about 2.3cm in case you’re still wondering.
Also since I’m here I’ll elaborate on my experience with the flexNext(s) since:
The LEDs on the FlexNext in this post died after a couple of months due to the implant bending too much (the chips did fine).
Amal provided me with a custom replacement. It has hole in the middle in place of the LF chip. The LEDs were reinforced with hard resin making the implant stiffer and very slightly thicker. It also has glow powder to glow in the dark. So I replaced the old one but I kinda knew this was only a temporary placeholder. Anyway the NFC tag died after a month but the leds are going strong.
Now I’m waiting for a replacement that we be final and will last.
(the same incision place is used every time by cutting out the old scar and proceeding normaly)
The NTAG216 is probably the least useful chip we have available. It’s just the easiest to work with and one of the must ubiquitous (after T5577 and MIFARE Classic). I just want you to know we have a lot going on and re-engineering the flexNExT is not a priority item. The more we learn and test in other projects like the Apex, the more likely it is that blinkies on flexes will come back. If the flexNExT gets revived though I hope it’s with a more useful HF chip.
