Nice! I’d like to get flex in my hand, but I’d need to take some time off work. I’m going to struggle with this forearm healing a bit since I’ve gotta go back to climbing towers on Monday. I’m half tempted to smother the area in hand sanitizer and wrapping it up with tegaderm lol

Covering a new wound with hand sanitizer is probably not the best move to be honest - it can really dry you out and kill the ā€œgoodā€ bacteria that are working to get you healed up.

Was just a joke. Will keep it wrapped with Neosporin at work. Just so much bird poop on the towers! Would hate to pop a stitch and have some bad bacteria get in.

Ohh okay haha. I have definitely made similar mistakes when I was younger in taking care of wounds, so wanted to be sure.

For sure! The Tegaderm is probably a good idea then - I swear by that stuff, especially for tattoo healing.

I still keep a bottle of rubbing alcohol to splash on cuts at work then wrap with duct tape like I’m still a stupid kid. I should just invest in a portable med kit.
I love tegaderm! My first thought was using it for this install, but I’m leaning more towards bandages and compression wraps. Easier to change after work, and I’m worried creases in the tegaderm from moving my arm around a lot would create tunnels for bacteria to walk through while working. I can keep a spare bandage, wrap, and Neosporin in my climbing harness to change it while on the tower, tegaderm might be more difficult in windy conditions, so I might have to wait hours until I’m back on the ground.

A little xG3 V2 intall in a weird spot and bevel up just to get everyone here mad :face_with_hand_over_mouth: kinda forgot about it this time and honestly it didn’t make much difference but I have some very strechy skin so…

Nice! Congrats on the new magnet!
Both of my xG3s we’re bevel up too. The installer felt more comfortable bevel up for my knife edge, and I forgot to flip the bevel when I self installed in p1

Those thick needles are indeed hard to get under the skin…

Cool!

Why did you choose the palm gripping surface of ur hand as position for the xg3? I’m curious

Best wishes for the healing process!

It’s all good now! I did it around 10 months ago. Initially I wanted it as a sensing magnet on one of my fingers but figured out that it might not be a safe enough location considering I’m fairly skinny and I dont have much skin to stretch. After a few days of trying to check where my skin is the most sensitive, I chose that location as for me, the area is way more sensitive than the knife’s edge plus I work with small screws and electronics daily so it seemed the most optimal location. Although I have a feeling that the skin might be a bit thick in that place for the magnet to achieve the best performance but I don’t have a comparison yet

CoM Conversion install

I would bleed a lot more that that… And I think that I should be able to handle the installation of a flex just fine even if stitches freak me out a little bit.

I assume that since there are no solder joints, installing a CoM conversion in the knife’s edge shouldn’t be a problem, right?

Time will tell I guess?

I don’t remember if it was mentioned, but I wonder if the flexing also causes encapsulation failure

generally no… but if there is a flaw in the manufacturing process then it can I suppose. What generally happens is flexing of inflexible components like the ABS plastic potting the bare silicon die inside which is wirebonded to the metal ā€œwingsā€ on either side using teeny tiny metal wires which can easily rip apart if the ABS plastic itself bends or stretches even a little. It’s an issue we’re exploring possible solutions for.

I don’t recommend installing flexes on the knife edge. Since I don’t care about getting cut and this will expire in a few years anyway I don’t mind this install being a data point.

As far as I can tell, CoM conversions are the most robust implant I’ve made. They have the durability changes I’ve made for all flexes, there’s no soldering for the joints to crack, and the chip area itself is mostly unable to flex due to the rigid nickel contacts.

Remind me to never get one of these. I think I would faint at the size of that pocket, even with numbing…

It ain’t no thing.

But how will you be a cool kid without a payment implant?

Just look away
