The perfect use of this thread
This is not worth a thread of it’s own…yet, or probably never, but I am hoping something viable comes of it
I miss my payment implant, and I currently have no options to replace it, There were some options previously availble, but they have all fallen by the wayside, However I do have a CoM conversion option, and with the new antenna modules with their amazing performance, it is tempting.
BUT
I have been looking for a tokenised payment option that will work in NZ / Australia ( Similar and shared Banking structure/ banks )
Fidesmo, Curve, etc, are yet to make it this far south.
I have been keeping a lazy eye on these and others, but there are no dates or indications of when these may arrive.
We have apple Pay, and Google pay etc., and these got me thinking…
in the same vein as the Swatch thread, ( Swatch Pay not available in NZ )
Garmin Pay.
Now, I am not sure how this works, but my hope is, something similar to the Swatch, which has it own independent and removable module
I found a good Garmin teardown video, but Payment chips were not mentioned specifically, and I couldn’t see any obvious antennas in it.
I know Garmin pay works in NZ and OZ, by simply linking Garmin Connect app with an ANZ or WESTPAC card, but what I am wondering if anybody happens to know anything about how the Garmin watch Pay works with regard to chip and antenna? @Satur9 ?
Does apple / google pay work on a watch when the battery is flat? Are the chips passive?
I like the idea of the swatch independent module and think it’s smarter, BUT would add more bulk, and the Garmin design looks like miniaturization was a priority in the design, so I don’t hold out much hope that theirs is similar to swatch.
I can pick up a 2nd hand one with google pay for pretty cheap on NZ equivalent of eBay to investigate… But I don’t want to waste my time if somebody already knows if it is viable or not.
Before posting, a little more research
I just watched another video, and now I think this will be a no go , because, to activate the payment capability you need to activate it on the watch applet…meaning, if it was independent you could simply tap and pay…
Damn it…
I could delete this, but incase somebody else has the same stupid idea that I did, the question has already been asked, and mostly answered
