What?
Given the choice, Iād rather avoid the fuck out of Microsoft as much as all the rest of them privacy invading sumbitches.
I mean that is entirely up to the Discord server(s) you are on. Thatās like saying you avoid IRC because of the pricks that use itā¦
Some more reasons do dislike Discord
- discord can delete your account at any time for any reason, cutting you off from all of your servers
- discord will lock out your account and force you to enter in a phone number at their discretion/use of VPN
- discord may even demand to talk to you on the phone if you use VPN/Tor
- discord regularly reads private dms or private servers to determine account deletion
- messages are not E2E encrypted and there will always be an unencrypted copy stored on their servers
- discord can provide messages to any third party they wish at any time, such as governments or companies without any legal obligation or requirement to let you know
- messages are not deleted when the account is deleted
- discord decrypts voice chats in flight, who knows what theyāre doing with it, they could have saved every single vc and thereās nothing you can do about it
- discordās app is proprietary so thereās no idea of what it could be monitoring on your computer
- discord silently tracks all your activity by default: https://sneak.berlin/s/2020/20200218.discord/tracking.png. This probably includes any actions in discord, but also usage patterns like connection times and IP addresses
I didnāt know it was that nasty, but none of that surprises me in the slightest in 2021.
My beef with it - using it for a grand total of 10 minutes to check out the DT and Proxmark channels - is:
-
Itās like IRC with too many colors and more images than text. Perfect for the short attention span generation, but it makes my head hurt
-
Whenever I change IP (which is all the time, since I use TOR for that sort of thing) it locks out my account and require me to confirm that Iām me by email. By the time I get the stupid confirmation email, hours or days later, the confirmation token has long expired. How stupid is thatā¦
-
Indeed, Noscript and uBO suggest itās tracking the bejesus out of me of course (no surprise there) and it takes a lot longer to enable just enough scripts to get it going than I care.
Anyway, that got old really fast. Iām really not desperate enough for a glorified IRC channel to jump through that many hoops.
Matrix would probably work better and is a lot more secure AFAIK, but I hardly believe that people would be willing to change now that a DT ecosystem on Discord has already been established. At best this would result in fracturing the community. Sad
+1
What they are doing is bullying privacy aware users. Like every other data company.
DT Discord was unofficial before.
Letās just make a Matrix.
Maybe we could even mirror the Discord content with a botā¦?
Whatever Iām pretty sure Iām not the only one leaving discord once MS owns it and weāre a techy, privacy aware community that could easily solve that.
Whats the currently popular implementation? Element (formerly riot)?
Which brings me to another topic: does DT rly need an extension to the forum?
I thought the Discord would just take the less important stuff but no, now thereās soo much good stuff hidden in some chats and the forum is left with basic support mostly Some people are actually Discord > Forum now.
Whateverā¦
DT has to be the most parasocial forum I have every come accross
For some (especially younger folks), IM just works better. Also things like allowing voice chat, video chat and screen sharing for support or just chatting are definitely a plus. Some deem the forum format obsolete. Unfortunately, Discorse just doesnāt allow for such immediate interacton
And thatās good, slower, written, more public communitation usually results in higher quality content. (I spam more on Discord.)
But yeah I agree, calls with u guys are funā¦ still, I feel like lots of stuff is lost under a couple thousand spam messages in #chatter.
The value add for the discord for me is the seamless transition from organized text channels to voice chat to screen sharing to video chat. The communication is much more efficient and versatile than the forum.
This exact problem your describing is why the biohack.me forum is inactive. People have moved to other communication channels that suit their needs better.
I donāt think this reqlly justifies a whole new topic, but has anyone who has had the larger flexes in the wrist (flexnext, flexMN, etcā¦) Tried wearing a wristwatch overtop of the implant?
No, and I can tell you without even trying that I most certainly wouldnāt
Thatās fair, and is exactly what I was expecting to hear sadly, thanks for your input
I CAN tell you that over an x series is fine
Interesting, I hadnāt really considered the wrist as an area for an X-series.
Though, with how many can potentially be crammed into the hand it seems to make more sense to save the wrist for those that require a bit more real estate for me at least
