Dear Canadians,
I love youā€¦ but you really need to work out what goes in containers and what goes in bags

Milk, does not go in a thin plastic bag

Milk in bags???

Yep, was in Canada the last week or soā€¦
Family cabin

When you go to the store to buy milk, it comes in a bagā€¦ not unlike buying a fish from a fish store

Whyyyyy is this a thing, I hate it

To be clear, this isnā€™t a new revelationā€¦ just something I canā€™t wrap my head around

Just carry a cow with youā€¦

ActuallY the udder is more like a bag than a bottle/container, SO maybe the Canuks have it right :man_shrugging:

infact, get a goat; worldwide, more people consume goat milk than cow milk AND they are easier to carry

Milk bags are also a thing in Colombiaā€¦ And it makes no sense!

Milk in those large cube like refrigerated dispensers used in cafeterias is actually in a bag, and has been for decades.

I donā€™t see the problem myself.

Of all the things to complain about this seems pretty minor. I personally think that American prices should include sales taxes, rather than having to guess just how much they are going to charge you.

I think ALL taxes should be clearly spelled out

None of these taxes that arenā€™t rolled into things such as gas taxā€¦

But it makes people angry when they see how much they actually pay in taxes, and angry people donā€™t vote for higher taxes

Yea, like a everyone has the exact pitcher you put the bag intoā€¦ itā€™s almost like they realize liquids in only a bag is problematic

isnā€™t that a tax thing? i remember reading something about it before

I can confirm that the LF/HF diag card is not machine washable, however the magnetic film is. I need to check pockets better when doing laundry lol

I donā€™t mind if the sign says $9.95 + $1.20 tax or $11.15 including $1.20 tax or whateverā€¦ My point is that at the moment I go into a store in Oregon, see something for $9.95 and I know that is what I will pay. If I go into a store in California or Washington I have no clue what I will be asked to pay.

Since this fits into the whole idea of this thread and is completely off of what we usually talk about I have a question.
Iā€™m returning to Uni in January but Iā€™m having some trouble with something, laptops.
Iā€™d like to get a new one for uni as although my current one performs great, the battery life is absolute dogshit (gaming laptop tings).
So Iā€™m curious to all my fellow students or business people, note takers, cyborgs. What laptops do you use? (I fully understand there are hundreds of thousands of guides on laptops available on the internet but half of the suggestions are fucking chromebooks)

While I personally dont use one, i would suggest looking at the framework laptops. Very modular, thus very repair-friendly, swappable expansion ports etc. But they are currently only available with Intel Cpus and only 13".

It depends what you are looking for. I recently used a Mac book and it had some really expensive and pretty pointless features. But if that is what you are intoā€¦

There are some new RISC V laptops appearing, if you worry about unverifiable code there are the laptops from purism. Or if you want to run Linux there are several good specialist options.

Have you considered replacing the battery in your laptop?

I was in two minds about getting a macbook air and a framework laptop.
Now, I have a desktop and a phone and thats all ive needed for the last decade but ive recently been working on a media preservation project with some ver old photos and wanted to be able to work off them while on the go. I asked someone I knew who has a macbook air if I could borrow it for a while, and while it took some getting used to the OS, I really liked it. Ordered the m2 air there a few days ago.

I dont play any games or anything on the laptop or phone, maybe civ or a point and click or something, and I donā€™t need that much storage, I have the files stored on my network and all my devices vpn into my local network so I can work off them.

Will definitely check them out

I had a horrible experience with my last MacBook plus I just canā€™t justify the price honestly

I donā€™t think itā€™s that the battery is old or anything I actually only got it around this time last year. The main issue is that it has a 1660ti and an i5 so even in power efficiency mode I get like 4hrs max unplugged.

As much as I hate to admit it realistically a chromebook type device would probably work for what Iā€™ll be doing (taking notes, watching lectures, etc.) But damn I hate ChromeOS and I really just donā€™t wanna give in if I donā€™t have to.

I think a very unspoken problem with even Windows laptops now is bloatware.
Companies like HP and Lenovo who Iā€™ve owned many laptops from (cirrevt gaming laptop is Lenovo), they have horrible integrated software that I personally believe is totally unnecessary and without formatting the hard drive and reinstalling windows is damn near impossible to remove. Just why?
