All good things come to an end :frowning:
Glad you had an amazing trip full of firsts! The redwoods are quite substantial and amazing!

I swear it’s fuckin useless even in America! I’m by no means a regular credit card user, but the amount of stores I go to that still don’t accept AmEx is amazing. Just stopped by a store today with a sign that said ā€œWe proudly accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. We do not accept American Express.ā€

Also Pilgrim, I verified that I successfully cloned my xMagic today by unlocking the gate to the property! There’s three different reader types, all Schlage. One for the gate, one for the building, and one for the units. Ivan only use the xMagic on the gate. It made my night! It also reinforced my previous wish of wanting to save up for a replacement mifare flex, but in a less impact prone area lol

Totally understand, I love my xMagic and wanted it for a long time, I pestered Amal a few times over a few years to make one, and I got one as soon as it was available, I removed my xM1 and xEM to make space for it.

But I actually use my FlexM1 more…purely because it’s easier to read with when I am using locks that are not my own (hotel, gym, swimming complex, lockers etc.) and I can easily read and write easily with my phone on the fly.

Don’t get me wrong, I still use my xMagic, and love the dual frequency functionality, and being able to read and write with the flipper is a bonus.

If I HAD to seperate them, I would give my FlexM1 5 stars and my xMagic a strong 4.9 Stars

I’ve been looking for a WiFi solution that uses a controller but doesn’t break the bank. Also, being able to separate wireless clients into different vlans is a required feature.

I’ve looked at Ubiquiti UniFi and EnGenius Fit and the first one of the two is likely more flexible but both seem to be targeted at a less technical audience than me.

For this deployment, Mikrotik might fit the bill at a slightly higher price point and it’s what I’m primarily considering.

But I’d still want to hear your opinions about UniFi and Fit as I’ve never used those systems.

Well with that kind of subscription it’s unlikely ZINC will officially support BeUnos anytime soon :expressionless:

Wow… what’s the subscription fee afterwards?

The way it’s presented it sounds like 500 :heavy_dollar_sign: yearly.

Maybe they haven’t figured out what’s next but that doesn’t fill me with confidence

I’d be okayish with a one time purchase since they include a couple non sterile chips in there.

well each year do you get another 2 chips? because then i see some value there.

I doubt it and reselling would be risky since they can track them easily :unamused:

see that there is what strays me from wanting to get one. I dont want any tech that can remotely be created obsolete.

One more reason to hack it :smirk:

I swear by my Ruckus R710s… they aren’t wifi 6 but they work awesome, use patented beam forming to connect to clients, and can run ā€œunleashedā€ controller firmware on one master unit if you want to mesh them. With ubiquiti and others I get client drops and just generally shitty wifi performance but these Ruckus units have been going strong ever since I bought them refurbed on amazon.

This price is insanley good… I bought mine ā€œrenewedā€ a few years ago for $450 each!

That’s a cool little project.

I’m looking forward to seeing the results

@darthdomo what power supply are you using

It’s a Korad KD3005D, a linear supply. Can do up to 30 volts and 5.1 amps.

I’ve had it for 6 years, really like it. It’s a simple model, but has come in handy a ton.

$85 on Amazon rn, I think I paid $70 or something in 2017.

Yes! Alright I’ve had this and the prog in my cart for a year. I’ve been holding off just because I wanted someone who has direct feedback on it. Is there anything you wish it had or any other features that in the past 7 years you felt you needed

Nope. It has overcurrent protection, locking, and constant current mode. Has done everything I’ve needed. There’s been a rare few times where I needed more current, but 5.1 amps has been more than enough for 99% of my use (it says 5 but can deliver 5.1).

Fixed it for you

Yes, I was expecting a significantly more enterprise price for those. Hence why I looked at the cheaper options like UniFi. However, I’ve never used that particular system and fear that it might be too limited.

I’ve had a similar experience with several home routers and similar junk. At least OpenWRT can help somewhat. And this is what I ended up using at my parent’s house, mainly because they already had a bunch of TP-Link repeaters that were junk but ended up being good enough with better software.

However, the Mikrotik hAP AC2 that I bought a while back for home lab purposes has been extremely reliable but the plastic became a bit sticky. They were slow to release WiFi 6 products but at least I’m impressed with their AC stuff.

If all goes well, I think that I’m giving the Ruckus a try. It’s incredibly cheap.
