Sapphire crystals are even better, that material is almost as hard as a diamond. And the few nice watches that I have donāt have scratches because of this.
Speaking of materials engineering, I was messing with some carbon fiber reinforced parts earlier today, and I want more of this stuff in my life, itās amazingly rigid!
The newer watches last longer, and as mentioned, depends on how you use them.
I use most functionalities and would get about 3.5 days out of it.
My older Frontier I would get about 2days from it.
BUT
They have a number of power saving modes and you can customise.
If you wanted the watch only, and only turns on display when you rotate your wrist to look at it.
older watches youāll get about 3 weeks, newer, you get about a month.
I dont use that functionality though, or i wouldnāt bother owning a smart watch.
power saving is an easy toggle though, so if its running low on power, you can buy yourself upto many days if you go conservative
I wasnāt talking about the battery life. I meant the durability as a product. After all, software updates and support matter a lot with these things and the reason why Iāve thought about getting one is because Samsung removed a bunch of features from their phones, including the blood oxygen sensor.
But considering that I enjoy the analog nature of my Tissot and the fact that it will last longer than my phone by at least an order of magnitude, Iām probably going to give my money to Amal instead of Samsung.
This brings up a question Iāve had trying to figure out how to intergrate a wearable into my life
When do you smart watch users charge?
Iām highly interested in the blood ox sensor due to some ongoing sleep apnea stuf and Iād like to compare blood ox to AHI numbers
sleep apnea stuff
Iāve had untreated OSA for years⦠but itās never bothered me, fall asleep⦠roll onto sides of stomach⦠w/e
Never had any of the sleepiness or other symptoms⦠and I had a lack of follow up care to help me deal with some cpap struggles⦠so I said fuck it⦠and went back to regular life
12 years later and Iām seeing some possible blood pressure stuff as a result so Iām trying to get on top of it
Back on the machine now, and I feel little to no improvement in my overall being throughout the day,⦠many report feeling like a new personā¦
I still feel exactly the same⦠so either Itās not fixing it⦠or I am super tolerant to feeling like shit?
yet my machine indicates acceptable treated data⦠so Iām interested in blood ox throughout the night
Valid question,
itās kind of a juggling act but easy to manage.
And itās easier with the newer watches like I said, the batteries last longer. So get a few days to not even worry about it.
But normally Iād look for an opportunity of inactivity to charge it up and again. The newer ones take a faster charge. So even a short charge. Weāll give you a significant battery Top-up.all that to say itās pretty easy to.
I have the galaxy 5. It lasts a day and a half with everything on, so I charge it every second night.
That said, it charges pretty quickly and I think you could get into a habit of putting it on charge while you do something pretty routine each day, like cook dinner or something and that would likely give it enough to wear every night.
I could use an Emotional Support Machinistā for those long unproductive days that are full of meetings and random errands, or when trying to convince someone who doesnāt understand engineering about making a decision thatās not utterly stupidā¦
Well I was going to, but then realised you are an Apple user; I imagine they do much the same, but I can only tell you the Samsung watch ultra measures sleep apnea, O2, snoring etc, and ties in with the phone for more accurate readings and combine again with the ring ( I believe, but I cant confirm because I donāt own one ) that agin builds a even more accurate pictueā¦
Wait, thereās another gadget that you have to buy to get the full functionality!?
Look, there were times when the pulse oximeter of the S8 came in handy, but I think that Iāll buy a cheap one and call it a day. What does the ring do that a watch canāt? Donāt smartwatches have the same sensors? Maybe it makes sense for people with wrist tattoos or as a lightweight alternative to a smartwatch? Iām lost here TBH.
Are wrist tattoos specifically a problem?
I clearly have a couple, but they are underneath, and even then if were to invert I think they are just out of the way of the sensor
I have the Apple Watch Ultra. A full battery last ~2 days. When I see it getting low, I often charge it in the truck driving to and from work, or I have a phone, watch, AirPods combo charger/stand on my desk at work. Based off my estimation and no measured data, a quick 30 minute charge seems to get me to around 50-70%.
I wear my watch every night. I had never specially looked at my blood ox data. I glanced at it this morning and donāt mind sharing. Sept 27 05:53 it reads 90%. I was in bed awakeish had been scrolling on my phone and decided to get an extra 10 minutes of sleep before getting up. Idk if that was accurate or an anomaly,
If there is anything else useful I can provide let me know.
After the pebble was killed, I had an Amazfit Bip and that thing was great. Super basic for a smartwatch but it had a 2 week battery life and that was perfect for me. Also had a great price point.
