I have less than an hour to make a bid on these, can anyone tell me if they’re worth bidding on? (server stuff)

p.s., I blame Amal for inspiring this.

Considering your stated goal vis a vis the other AI thread, I don’t think so. You’ll be looking for a server that can have at least one GPU installed and I don’t think blade servers fit the bill.

Too bad. I did make a bid at 300, but it started everyone else to jump in and bid. I think most of these get bought up from gov sales by flippers and pieced out individually. Which makes the prices, not good. At least for the homebrew nutjob market.

yeah man… but honestly I bought my fully loaded R720 server with 256GB ram and 2x CPUs and even hard drives for $250. On eBay. Rails kit was $50 but with a wall mount rack you don’t need rails.

Make an offer … 96GB ram is huge for an AI server… buy a cheaper GPU like a $300 nvidia 3060 with 12GB vram ike I did and slap it into riser card 3… you’ll need a power cable mod like I had to do but you’ll have a well running AI server on the cheap. With 12GB vram you can load almost all 7B models no sweat and they run descent. The trick is to work with a single model and force it to stay loaded into memory… first query takes a while to come back but subsequent queries come back immediately and spit out pretty fast.

Will be here in a week. :scream:

My 70s CNC lathe finally decided to retire last week, and I think I found the perfect solution

I’ve been eyeing LinuxCNC, but getting a proper computer to run sketch boards are always a bit of a gamble (and bulky), and the pi has been too slow … But the pi5 is able to run a parallel port property

Anyone running LinuxCNC ?

i wish i had the space for a Lathe.

I’ve got one of those chinese 9x20 lathes. As limited as it is, it’s still an amazing resource to have.

It’s usefuleness is compounded by also having other metal working tools. Welder / vice / drill press / etc.

On a a weirdly related note.
Laser welding looks to be a thing now.

I have a 9" manual and the emco compact5cnc.
If you only have a room for something small, I’d recommend the HF mini lathe, surprisingly good lathe (if you replace the plastic gears) and if you only have 1 machine tool, it should be a manual lathe … Can’t recommend a lathe enough for any home.

Pair it with an FDM printer and you will do 90% of what you need around the house/project/prototype

I do have a question for you , Why a just a .pdf and not a post or post + .pdf?

Just curious…

Is it because of the table?

You can make a table here

There’s a YouTuber I follow, Ryan Knorr, puts those lines to shame…

Also, I found the irony of filming landscaping in portrait quite funny…maybe thats just me

Two reasons:

1- I find formatting stuff in a way I like a pain to do in Discourse. I am more used to doing things in an essay format and feel more comfortable doing so. Plus ~90% of the time I come here on my phone, not my desktop.

2- I wanted the guide to be more easily transferrable/portable, and in my mind a PDF or ODT would be easier (and more approachable) than a web link to a forum post.

I didn’t do a PDF and a post because, well, I didn’t think about it. I will have to ā€œexpandā€ that later tonight (when I have my desktop). (Granted the formatting will be off, but who cares?)

Looking at the datasheet on the store product page… Did we confirm if these did have all 2.5kb of storage?

And don’t iso15693 tags like this have slightly better range than iso14443x tags due to decreased power draw?

Getting ready to order some more stuff soon for playing with/gifting, and I maaay choose to grab these over xNT
