Have you noticed that people who grew up in the information era, can’t frickin make change? I usually make a little game of it where I’m figuring out what the change is, and what denomination of coins / bills I’ll receive back, and, I’m usually done before they can read the cash register to TELL THEM the answer.

Sorry, sore point with me. :rage:

I like to think of myself as a technologically advanced Luddite.

To be fair, I noticed something interesting when I worked a cash register at my grandparents store. Making change was fairly easy if you did the count-up method, but every once in awhile someone wanted some specific coins or they would do the thing where they give you extra cash to make the change making process easier. Some of those outliers caught me off guard from time to time and this kind of brain fog sets in and it can be nearly impossible to figure it out. It’s like you’re in one type of flow hitting the buttons and moving products around and doing your thing, then someone says quick do some math… it was embarrassing.

Meanwhile, when I was on the customer side of the transaction, I found myself several times explaining exactly how to break the change to the bewildered cashier. After working the register and experiencing all my basic math skills go right out the window, I gave them a bit of grace.

Yeah as soon as someone disrupts your normal NPC behavior it takes a second to compute. I’m the same way especially when I worked the register at BBY. The old folks would get especially antsy about it. Like chill I’m switching to manual mode…

I often do that…

Was looking at the Ethernet graph in task manager and wondering if you could write some software to draw landscapes or cityscapes with it.

(Mine looked a bit like monument valley, that’s why)

I think it would be easier to do it with memory use because ethernet would require a target to send and receive traffic with. I don’t think local loop address traffic is counted on that graph.

I once had a math professor who ran an art contest, on TI84 calcs.

Some people teach, and some educate.

The days of coding flappy bird and Minecraft on calculators… I found my old casio the other day, I’m sure it has some gems on it

I went to college a few years ago, and we were still doing it then. (I wasted some time after multiple Stats exams)

I know that this product belongs in that thread, but I must admit I’m confused right now.

What the hell are these even advertised to do? They’re just labeled ā€œprotection stickerā€, but like what do they (pretend to) protect against? Is this a " I’m being watched " protection or a " I’m afraid of the radio waves " protection?

For those curious, doomscrolling amazon for DESFire Ev3 8k cards resulted in this product being recommended to me.

As long as it’s not radioactive…

So the ā€œprotection filmā€ has a US flag on it. Is it supposed to protect from Europeans and Latin Americans or something?

And no, we’re not afraid of the American flag, or any other flag for that matter…

Its unsurprising that americans would be the [largest/main] buyers of crap like this.

My general read is that it’s to protect you from cell phone cancer paranoia. And evil spirits. Definitely not a scam. :man_facepalming:

Isn’t ā€œNegative Ion Filmā€ code for radioactive source material? Cause surely you’d want that pressed against your skull to prevent dangerous cell phone brain cancer.

still not sure what they do, but the review are pretty funny

note that 3 peoples find this helpful

Signal booster or EMF shield? doesnt matter, it does it all

and this one is for something else, clearly a re-used page …

Yep if they use Chinese negative ion powder to make that then it’s just straight up thorium powder.

They don’t even use words to describe what it’s sopposed to be doing because it.youre crazy enough to buy this you’ll fill in the blanks yourself with whatever makes you feel like you’re not wasting your money.

I guess … Electromagnetic radiation?

If it actually did that then it would basically be a near perfect black body and you’d not be an to even see it

I absolutely would not, but I’m curious if I can…

So could I just order a can of powdered thorium straight outa china?
