Virtual Reality Equipment šŸ•¶

The display resolution is going to need a generation still to be GOOD for monitor replacementā€¦ currently I find the text to not be as comfortable as a monitor

Also they will need to allow a lot more fine tuning of it, brightness, contrast, sizing and distance and aspect ratios etc

But itā€™s comin

Good to know. Thatā€™s a very reasonable price.

Hereā€™s a really good deal I found. 8 Quest games for $15. Acccounting+, Gadgeteer, and SculptrVR are all quite good, and those alone add up to $47. The Zombieland game is fine, albeit a bit boring, and Death Lap seems decent from the little bit I played earlier (think Mario Kart crossed with Mad Max, you can shoot a giant gun from your car).

The keys are legitimately bought from Oculus, itā€™s not a G2A situation. All of mine redeemed fine, with the exception of Ghost Giant which is on back-order. Theyā€™ll apparently send me an email with my key once they get them back in stock.

Iā€™ve had an absolute blast playing them all today.

It also comes with a free (although not great) Steam game. I went for the ā€œWinter mystery gameā€ and got ā€œPure Farming 2018ā€. A nice little bonus, but definitely donā€™t expect a super popular game haha. They had some choices other than the mystery one that looked fine.

Do these games run on quest 2?

Yep, theyā€™re all Quest 2 games (the pack is just for Quest/Quest 2).

The codes are redeemed through the Oculus store, and show on the Quest 2 just the same as if a friend gifted the game to you.

Everything that runs on the original Quest should run on the Quest 2 just fine.

But I will recommend getting a powerful gaming PC, a decent router or AP, and Virtual Desktop. PCVR is significantly better.

I like PCVR a lot, I use Virtual desktop for it as well (Airlink is buggy for me), but I honestly still prefer using Quest native games most of the time.

The lack of setup required is really nice, and I go back and forth between my dorm and my parentā€™s home a lot. Being able to start off a game from where I left off, without dragging my gaming PC along, is really nice.

I also primarily use linux on my desktop, and so I have to reboot into Windows for any PCVR games. Technically SteamVR supports linux, but the Oculus SDK does not. Virtual Desktop doesnā€™t support Linux either. ALVR is an open-source alternative to virtual desktop, and it has experimental linux support, but itā€™s nowhere near ready.

The graphics downgrades for native are marginal for me, since the resolution and refresh rate are still good. The only thing really lacking in most native games is texture resolution.

In something like Beat Saber, the tiniest amount of latency really messes me up, so the Quest version will always be my favorite.

There are a lot of great PCVR exclusives though (Half-Life: Alyx being the big one for me ), and I love having a way to play those.

Even though I have a Quest 2 now, I loved my original Quest, and I was so annoyed when they released the Quest 2 less than two months after I bought my Quest 1 (and the Quest 2 was $100 cheaper for twice the storage). I was thankfully able to sell my Quest 1 to a friend of mine and got a decent amount for it, which helped pay for my Quest 2. The Quest 1 was so much more comfortable for me, with the exception of the controllers being a bit too small for my hand size.

I was one of those that got an allergic reaction from the original Quest 2 facial foam, which hurt my comfort a lot. I use a VR Cover now, but it was an annoying secondary purchase.

So did anyone with the quest 2 who dose not have a vr ready pc check out pluto sphere it allows you to use a cloud vr ready computer that streams pc vr games over the net itā€™s pretty decent very playable especially if you donā€™t have vr ready pc and want to play steam vr games here is their discord

You will have to enable developer mode and use side quest plenty of youtube tutorials on how to do so and there is a sorta subscription token type payment but either now they are giving tokens for free stress testing and what not so good time to give it a try

Also check out ready player me it allows you to create a pretty realistic avitar that looks like you and its cross app compatible so you can use the same avitar in vr chat, immersed , vspacial and buch more

I had heard of Plutosphere as sort of shadow pc for vr ā€¦ but last I heard it was super hard to get a subscription or allocationā€¦ has this changed?

Yeah the basicly gives you a cloud pc to play pvc vr games in you quest 2 over the invent ad of going out and spending a shit ton of money on me vr ready pc plus with the chip shortage and crypto miners buy up so the GPUs they is getting harder to come by and if you do they are so overpriced itā€™s criminal lol

Yeah I had no trouble right now they are giving away tokens for free as they are stress testing their servers the did pause this temporarily as the are setting up a new verification requirement as you know people like to take advantage of a glitch or loop hole so people where makeing fraudulent accounts to get more tokens and screw everyone errors but putting it on hold while they fix the verification issue should be back if not will be shortly f either way I recommend it for people who donā€™t have vr ready PCā€™s and wanna pcvr

I shoud really read what I type before sending derp

Reviving this thread :sunglasses:

Excited that the Quest 3 is releasing in a few days. Probably going to try and sell a few things and upgrade. Seems to fix the problems that I had with the quest 2 (slimmer, lighter, and pancake lenses). The lenses on my Quest 2 get on my nerves, I canā€™t stand god rays. Full color and higher res passthrough should be really nice too, although I donā€™t plan on doing much mixed reality stuff.

Also, I love the BoboVR M2 Pro battery strap for my quest 2, and was very happy to see that theyā€™re releasing a retrofit kit for the Quest 3. Absolutely awesome move by them, and proves that they actually care. Not having to buy a new strap makes the upgrade a lot easier to justify.

Yea I saw the bobo retrofit thing, Iā€™m not usually a fan of the halo styleā€¦ but thatā€™s a move I support enough ā€¦ considering maybe voting with my monies m

I havenā€™t tried many halo straps, but this is the only comfy Quest 2 strap Iā€™ve found for my massive noggin. Iā€™ve tried a few and none have worked before this one. I find that Iā€™m really sensitive to pressure around my eyes, and this seems to be a good compromise for a decently tight fit without lots of pressure. I like their magnetic battery system too.

The matching travel case is also excellent, feels very high quality. My Quest lives in it whenever Iā€™m not using it, and has helped it survive a few moves + a few drops.

Itā€™s funny, my former roommates and I all had our own Quest 2s, and after one roommate got an M2 Pro, within a week the rest of us ordered one as well. Especially with the breakage issues with the Quest 2 elite strap, itā€™s been the best option for me personally.

Quest 3 obtained.

Impressions so far:

Visuals with the new lenses seem much better. No more god rays or anything. Looks a lot clearer, and thereā€™s no sweet spot like with the Quest 1 and 2 lenses.

Passthrough is much, much better, but still not perfect. Reading and using my phone is pretty easy, using a desktop monitor is a little harder. Very easy to see and use a keyboard though.

For mixed reality, it should be more than good enough, esp with the depth sensor. Itā€™s super easy to walk around, grab a drink from the fridge, that kind of thing as well.

Comfort seems better, but hard to tell since itā€™s still the stock strap, which puts a lot of pressure on my face. Going to try 3D printing an adapter someone made to use my BoboVR M2 Pro, b/c the official conversion kit already sold out in minutes lol.

The new facial interface feels better than the Quest 2 one (which I was actually allergic to), but worse than the Quest 1 facial interface. Probably comfortable enough to where I wonā€™t buy a VR Cover for this one.

FOV is noticeably better, although due to my face shape, I canā€™t use it at the closest relief setting with the stock strap. The facial interface clicks in and out 4 different steps, which also acts as the glasses spacer. I have to have it on the second setting, otherwise it kinda hits my eyelashes. I think thatā€™ll change once I get it going with my Bobo.

The changed shape feels a lot lighter, even though itā€™s technically the same weight or heavier I think. The weight is a lot closer to your face.

New controllers seem fantastic, but havenā€™t tried Beat Saber yet. The lack of rings make them a lot easier to set down on a desk or something.

Hand tracking also seems a lot better.

Did some brief PCVR, felt fine, but need to try Half Life Alyx or something to see if I notice a big improvement with visuals. I also need to move my router so I can actually try 6 GHz.

The small box is nice. If I were to keep with the stock strap, it would be good enough to travel with. Would fit in a bag pretty easily.

I was looking, looks like bobo vr makes the m1 non halo styleā€¦ any news or thoughts on if their conversion kit would also convert the m1 to a quest 3?

Alsoā€¦ jelly

Awesome review! Have you taken the IR filters off the cameras yet and tested night vision?

:scream::exploding_head:

It doesnā€™t, but someone already made a 3D printed adapter for the M1 to work with a Quest 3, looks to work pretty well.

The M2 design is a lot different, and struggled with the adapter I printed. Need to give it another go, hopefully someone uploads a better design. The sides of the Quest 3 are curved, the design I tried is flat, and relies on the PETG to flex enough to conform to the shape. My PETG print didnā€™t, so it popped off way too easily.

EDIT: The M1 adapter actually conforms to the curve of the sides of the Q3, unlike the other designsā€¦ They also uploaded the onshape file. Might try and modify it for the M2.
