The antišŸš«-derailmentšŸšƒ & threadšŸ§µ hijackingšŸ”« threadšŸ§µ ā‰

Right now itā€™s a painā€¦ Iā€™m working with @tac0s to finalize a switch to a version thatā€™s like the community map and easier to manage / update.

Will do

I work with this guy.
Iā€™ve been machining weird and complex stuff for 30 years now. (whoa, mind fuck there) I have an impressive background and skill set, but no certifications of any kind. Heā€™s been a journeyman machinist for a couple of years. As far as I can tell he got his papers just by putting in his time at his last job.

I have had to teach himā€¦
How to use a bridgeport.
How to use a lathe.
Not to wear loose long sleeve shirts while working on the lathe.
Weā€™re still working on not leaving the chuck key in the lathe.
How to program (MasterCam)
How to EDM, (had to teach myself from scratch first)
How to use the band saw.
How NOT to use the band saw.
Basic use of hand tools.
And I swear to God Iā€™m not making this up, how to use steel stamps, and he still hasnā€™t figured it out.
Heā€™s mastered exactly 0 of these skills.

He makes just over 6 dollars an hour more than me. Heā€™s moving to a new job with a 10 dollar bump in pay.
So itā€™s not just a functional strategy in the education system. The part that freaks me out is that it is a VERY functional strategy.

I think it comes down to goals. If your goal is only to make more money then youā€™ll be only focused on that. Any system can be gamed. If you care only about advancing your pay then you can make that happen. Just like cheating in school, if your only goal is to get through it a fast and easy as possible, you can. You wonā€™t learn a thing, but youā€™ll probably pass with a 4.0 GPA.

I think your goal is mastery of the thing you love doing. Youā€™ll pass up moves that might increase pay but arenā€™t aligned with that goal. My bet is, at the end of the day with all the chips stacked up and accounted for, youā€™re happier than this guyā€¦ even if it doesnā€™t seem like it.

fuck-em

Mainly, fuck the Purdue math department. Fucked me out of one of my core requirements on multiple occasions. Completed most of the rest of my degree, and pissed away close to $100,000 and 4 years of my life.

Would have been much less money, but screwed me out of my grant after my first year.

How?

Whatā€™s the configuration of the network? WOL enabled in the bios? NIC is integrated or adapter card? Motherboard power settings allow for live NIC when shut down? Seeing link and data LEDs on NIC active while shit down? Some NICs need to have WOL enabled in the NIC options via OS driver too.

Wire shark network tool,
I can turn it on and initiate the wol command and watch the packets come in

Laptop, plugged in
Ethernet to router
NIC is intergrated
Bios is set to allow
Device manager settings should all be aligned to allow wake on lan and magic packets etc

Windows OS?

If youā€™ve got discord, I can pop on there so as not to pollute the derailment thread with my troubleshoot request

Do have but couch surfing eyeballing kiddos the rest of the night. Could do laterā€¦ maybe 4 hours from now or so?

Fair lol
Iā€™ll be here poking at it until otherwise stated lol

I added / updated that on my nomination for your best post post

Make sure WoL is enable in both your BIOS (if there is an option for it) and on your adapter properties in device manager. If there is no option for it in device manager, itā€™s possible that the adapter doesnā€™t support WoL. Iā€™ve had a cheaper MoBo that didnā€™t have it before.
