:flipperzero_white: (HOW TO) - Flipper Zero - GitHub & OTA Updates

RIGHT
Here’s the dealio, I started writing up the bestest ever Flipper HOW TO guide ever, I started grabbing sceenshots and some links THEN I stumbled on a better option that somebody else had already done, and better than I could have done…There is one addition that I will add at the end…anyway, take advantage of my wasted time and follow this link to an excellent step by step guide.

SetUp your Flipper first, open for link to quick guide

How to start using Flipper Zero & update firmware via PC #flipperzero #gadgets #hardware - YouTube

https://flipper.pingywon.com/

A couple of notes

  • You will find in that guide a file called TheWholePackageOfEveryThingEver
It’s great, but remember to run this through an un-zipper as there are some zipped folders in there, otherwise you will short change yourself.

  • Also remember to follow the Sub GHz instructions

  • where I can finally contribute; You may see on github, some of the new updates are only coming out in .tgz, and in the guide above, it does not (yet) explain how to update with these files

So on your phone !!!

go to github, This is another great link

If we go to firmwares, pick your poison, I’ll follow Roguemaster

EDIT

My current favourite is ClaraCrazy Flipper - Xtreme

go to releases, and grab yourself the latest

image

Scroll to the bottom and download the .tgz file

Open up your Flipper Mobile app
Android link below

Turn on Bluetooth on your Flipper :flipperzero_white:

Connect your phone to your Flipper :flipperzero_white:
REMEMBER TO TURN ON YOUR LOCATION, OR YOU CAN’T CONNECT TO BLUETOOTH FOR SOME FUCKEN STUPID REASON

OR

My preferred connection
Type C to Type C cable (no location required, and instantaneous connection)

When you are connected

Go to options, and turn on experimental Options

Go back to the main screen ( Touch :logo_bt: bottom left )

Tap on release, then choose CUSTOM

Tap on CHOOSE FILE

Choose the previously downloaded .tgz file ( in your downloads folder )

Select Update

Your Flipper will start it’s update

This is pretty slow over Bluetooth :logo_bt: 10 -15 mins ( Here’s why )

And shown on your Flipper

Screenshot-20221015-214614

When it is completed as shown on your phone

And on your Flipper

ANYWAY, I hope this helps someone else.

iOS users :iphone:

Minor install difference as explained below by @ZeGerman

Happy Flippering everybody :flipper:

I must be missing something. I don’t have a custom option.

You have to be a beta tester to see it for the app itself.

Figured it out.

Or this?

I had mine flipped.

It was on. I went back to Google play and noticed I can sign up for beta,

Only after I updated to the beta app, was I able to see it.

Unless I’m missing something looks like IOS version doesn’t play ball :-/

You can update the firmware on ios as well, however it’s a bit more tricky.
You need to download the .tgz with Safari.
Then go to the “Files” app and look for the .tgz in the “Downloads” folder.
Long-tap the file and use the share feature to share the file with the Flipper app.
The Flipper app should open and offer to update using the selected firmware

Thanks for this @Pilgrimsmaster!

Perhaps this is the wrong thread to ask, but what are “rolling codes,” in relation to Flipper functionality?

Probably referring to the SubGHz for garage doors and cars etc. You may have heard it called hopping?

Basically a new code is issued after each authentication

So you could grab “the next code” from the alarm fob on your flipper, and replay that, BUT that same code wouldn’t work the next time

Ah gotcha, thanks for clarifying! I guess that isn’t natively supported in the stock firmware/non-Unleashed firmware.

Im not sure if it is or not, but the Unleashed firmware, I think that just unlocks the locked regional Frequency spectrum
(You can also do it on Roguemaster and others)

To do that you would read (for legal reasons) and then follow the instructions in the guide above

https://flipper.pingywon.com/

Basically just editing a .txt

I was reading about pace makers working in the same range after I installed RM.

Fuck that, I ain’t editing shit. I will not be the reason someone dies.

(Yes I know just to avoid those frequencies)

Wow, I had no idea - thank you for this info!

Pacemakers annoy me

It’s 2022, they need to get their rf secure and under control… and stop expecting to be able to fear monger anything that emits rf
